Ruusan: Journey to the Valley of the Jedi

Jiren examined Odon for a moment more, then removed his hood to reveal his visage, well-known throughout the galaxy as the head of the Ossan Parliament and former New Republic Supreme Military Chancellor. "High Jedi Master of the Rogue Jedi Order, at your service," he said. "I trained your friend Kamon."

Jacen shook Jeren's hand, "It's nice to meet you" said Jacen, "How did you too get here?" asked Jacen and wait for their response

Indeed the man who now stood before him was a legend in his own right; Gash Jiren, Rogue Jedi Master, the greatest of all know jedi.. However, that is not what touched Odon, instead the words from his mouth caused momentary confusion.

Ossan Parliment? Yet, our home was destroyed by Sedriss. You speak of Ossus as if it still lives. Tell me Master Jiren, what do you speak of?

Alana smiled, "Don't worry Jeren. He's safe."

Gash raised an eyebrow at this. What sort of strange Jedi, he wondered, had found their way to Ruusan? How could anyone not have heard of the highly publicized reconstruction of Ossus with the funding of the now-defunct New Republic? There was something strange about Jedi Master Odon Baas.

"I helped to rebuild it, several years ago, assisted by the Republic," Jiren said slowly, examining Baas with increased suspicion. "Where have you been?"

Odon slumped a bit, taken back to the dark times, before the purge by Vader, before he was a jedi.

Flashback.............49 years ago......................................

The elegant master looked into the eyes of the small and eager boy, cupping his hand under his firm jaw as his display screen flashed several images.

Uh..........a ship.......a cup.......a lightsaber!

Smiling the bald headed master looked like some ebony god; tall, firm and just. He looked to his two jedi companions who wore permanent scowls.

He is unusually strong with the force and as such, will be taken to coruscant to be trained as a jedi.

The enigmatic Jedi revealed his lightsaber from his dark brown jedi cloak, igniting it gracefully, bathing the room in a brilliant hue of purple. The nine year olds eyes were astonished, truly fixated on the weapon.

This is the weapon of a Jedi, a lightsaber, a more elegant weapon for a civilized order. As a jedi young one, it will become a part of you, shaping your decisions. In time I will instruct you in its use.

The orders newest padawan furrowed his brow, asking a question like any normal child.

Master.....I heard Yoda speak of Midichlorians....what are they sir?

A wry grin covered the face of Mace Windu at the boys audacity and intellect, forcing him to avoid the gruff grimace of Master Yoda and his former padawan Atonai, now a jedi knight. These two, champions of the unifying force, were often stoic and dedicated to their beliefs. Mace knew that this boy would test their limits in the years to come.

Midichlorians are what allows a jedi to hear the will of the force. If not for this symbiont relationship, we would not be able to access the many gifts that the force offers us.

The nodded absently, now only concerned with his family, moving to embrace them for the last time. His small frame was wrapped by the loving embrace of his parents, as they whispered into his ear, bringing tears to his eyes.

Turning back to his new master, the young boy now thought of the future and all that his new life would entail. For himself, his family and his homeworld of Corellia, he would be a jedi knight, upholding the peace and defending the weak.

Come young one, it is time for us to depart. First, I would like to formally introduce you to Master Yoda and his former padawan, Atonai. The young boy, grinning from ear to ear, shook the hand of Atonai furiously.

Glad to meet ya......Hey nice lasersword.....I think we will become good friends!!

BAHHH....said the 21 year old knight, obviously upset at the boys emotion. With his typical frown, atonai returned to Yoda's side, eager to get back to coruscant and delve into the specifics of the jedi code.

Concealing his face with his brown cowel, Mace Windu gently gripped the boys shoulder, washing him with his warm smile.

Come Odon Baas, your life as a jedi begins today!

Current time.................................................................

Snapping out of his reverie, Odons calm jedi mind slowly began to regain its composure, focusing on the question by this rogue master Gash Jiren.

Sedriss came for my children, jedi twins, in a sick effort to claim them as his own. Our numbers were small, in the low hundreds, many fled and many more perished. We fought barevely but in the end, the alliance of sith was too much for us.

Looking proudly at the jedi knights and masters around him, he stood tall again, enriched by the memory of many of the brave men and women before him.

We fled, heading toward the unknown regions of space. I was a prisoner of Grand Admiral Thrawn for over 20 years, which is how I survived the purge of the old order. We did not stay in one place long, jumping in and out of hyperspace, only long enough to relax or resupply.

For years we searched for a new home, looking in hidden databases, sensing through the force, until the day I had my vision of Ruusan. I had heard Master Windu speak of it long ago but I never intended to use it as a site to train. So for the last five years we wandered, hoping the Dark lord would forget us, yet now I know that is not possible.

My people are survivors and committed to the force in all its facets. This news of Ossus brings warm feelings to my heart. If only we could see it again, reclaim the soil of our fallen brethren, showing the darkness that light has taken root once again.

Looking back to the stranger, he sighed, resigned to make do on Ruusan.

So tell me Rogue Master, how can this Jedi Praxeum be of service?

Gash Jiren saw that Odon was clearly phased by the question, and eyed him as he went through what could only have been some sort of mental relapse, given the thoughts that washed off of him.

He eyed Odon Baas for a minute more, weighing his words. The obvious answer would be, "get the hell off of this world", of course, as that was what Jiren had come here for. But something in the man's voice appealed to the Rogue Jedi Master's sense of compassion.

"How many Jedi are you?"

Odon smiled, his typical disarming nature, walking closer to the rogue jedi, speaking softly.

Are numbers are just over a 100 jedi. We have our transports and our lightsabers. Sedriss left us with little else. I am sorry for my loose thoughts; it has been a long and difficult ride for me, my praxeum and my children.

Kenshin barely caught Luis' words as he noticed a very strong presence nearing the newly erected Praxeum. It was the famed Rogue Jedi Master Gash Jiren and the mystical man approached Master Baas.

He listened intently for a moment, only making out a few phrases here and there. However, he figured it was probably better to leave them alone and stalked off to the library where he would do some research on this mission.

"No apology is necessary," Gash admonished, waving a hand.

Clearly, Baas and his order of Jedi were in need. Even more clear was that they were a strange group with a truly dark past. But the charge of trespassing was all but forgotten, now. "The Rogue Jedi Order numbers some two-hundred strong, but we would welcome more," Gash said. "If you seek to return to your home, we would be quite pleased to have you -- though I think you'll find Ossus is quite different from the way you left it."
