Heir Raktus
There's no such thing as an afterlife, that as a given whats the point of religion?

You make that assertion as though it's an accepted fact. I don't take that as a given, so I'm gonna have to ask you to prove it. (I'll put up evidence the other way myself later if I remember, but I have to run now.)

I have no evidence either way regarding an afterlife. I can only hope that there is and if it's anything like Valhalla, I certainly would like to sign up.

Yes, you heard me right - Valhalla.

Back on the topic at hand, the trials of the women whose children they let get abused has turned farcical!

Yup after looking through the artical on the first day of the trial, i have to wonder if they'll ever get through it at all. In the first 11 hours of testifying yesterday they only got through 11 witnesses.

Most of the lawyers and children are in an amphitheater or something a couple of miles away, doing all interaction by video.

Also investigators are now reporting that they are finding alot of cases of pregnancies in girls as young as 13 years old.

What i think will be sad or atleast hard is integrating all these kids into the normal world after living all their lives like this, with the belief that the outside world is immoral and sinful being drilled into them all their lives.

Edit: another interesting morsel from an article taken directly from said artical - "The children reported that if the prophet heard from the Heavenly Father that they were to marry at any age, they were to do that. If the prophet said they were to lie, they were to do that," Voss said.

Over a hundred lawyers in one trial and massive objections.

I will, to much of your antipathy, no doubt, re-state that in this instance a stronger court and more authoritarian judges are needed. There should be no question - none - that what happened is wrong and there should be no need for a legal system. It should go something like this:

Judge - Madam Defendant, you raised your child in an environment conducive to her becoming pregnant and in a compound where she was subject to abuse and other sorts of unspeakable acts?

Def - Yes, Your Honour

Judge - Very well. You yourself shall be sentence to one year Hard Labor and your child shall be taken into the custody of the State to be awarded a proper home and one where abuse shall not ensue. Next Case

*Drug Using Mother walks In*

Judge - So, you raised your child while you used money that could be saved for his education on drugs and also exposed him to possible puncture with needles, burning with hot crack spoons, and interaction with drug dealers?

Def - Yes Your Honour

Judge - You are sentenced to One Year Hard Labor and your child shall enter into the custody of the State. Bailiff, Sterilize the Defendent

But seriously, why is this such an issue? Why are these deadbeat cultish parents even given the option to defend themselves?????????

Well while i might agree with some of that, everyone in the U.S. is given right to a fair trial. Sometimes this is good as it actually shows that some are innocent when accused of a crime but other times it just serves to muck up and delay a really punishment for crimes that everyone knows a said person or persons did. But like i said there is always a chance of innocence that can be revealed in the proceeding of a trial.

Bottom line while they do deserve a trial i hope they all get jail for life for doing the shit they did those girls.

Burden of Proof, so if you can prove that their is an afterlife as such, you got yourself a cool million . Otherwise I think all you got is the same old bullshit repeated over the centuries...

regardless of whether religion is the cause of this debacle (and it is) these fucks deserve to spend the rest of their lives in prison. girls as young as 13 were raped and impregnated after being forced to marry men as old as their fathers.

While religion is taken advantage of for a person to achieve their own ends and means (like this situation right now, and Al-Qaeda taking advantage of the Koran, and the Christians in time past with the crusades, and the "fathers" in modern times in the sexual abuse scandals, fund raisers with con-artists, etc etc etc), religion does also bring in a lot of good, and brings out the best in people, even if what it promises is failed to be delivered on (afterlife - may or may not exist, but on the possibility it might, is good enough for me).

I think it is important to point out that wars, sexual abuse, this situation, and others, would still occur, and do still occur, anyways without the presence or use of religion, and therefore it is man, and not religion itself, that is the problem.

how do you know it would still go on without religion? when has there ever been a time that there hasn't been some form of religion in the history of man? so therefore since neither can prove our theory then both arguements are null and void.

religion aside the leader of this will probably serve a minimum sentence.

Sadly. Thank liberal bleeding heart hippieyuppies for weak sentencing and even weaker prisons
