When Everyone Wore Hats

Another bunch of twits who think the present is so much more enlightened than the past.
Yeah... yeah I'd say it pretty much is. That would be the nature of sentient beings -- moving forward, gaining knowledge and learning from mistakes. Mistakes like segregation and apartheid, mistakes like a nation run by a church preaching sin-and-damnation-forever politics.

Ah, yes, today. Today is so much better, where women abandon their children to strangers for upbringing so they can pursue a career,
That's called "adoption", Kas. Isn't that what you Christians support as apposed to abortion? But then a woman's place is in the home, right, Kas? Barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen. And white, most of all. If you ain't white, you ain't right.

where Christ-followers are shunned and hated with a passion,
Well, Kas, given that "Christ-followers" are pretty much the only faith group which attempts to foist its religious values into the America's systems of government and education... yeah, I'd say that type of behavior is pretty much shunned by a general public which has witnessed the injustice of theocracy a thousand times in history. Aren't you the country that's dedicated to taking down corrupt, theocratic regimes like Iran? You've watched people raised, educated, and indoctrinated by nations where religion is law blow up your buildings. Have you still not made the connection?

where racial and religious discrimination is not only prominent, but supported by the federal government,
It is a most grievous error to associate treating everyone the same with equality, and I know that this is about affirmative action. You brought the Africans to America. They didn't want to come. You made them stay in a segregated portion of the country. You treated them like dirt. And now you're making it up to them. That's just how it goes. And don't try and tell me that "it's all in the past and we should all just forget about it". Holy Christmas, man, you're still reaping the benefits of having kidnapped and enslaved an entire racial group.

(I would also note that segregation was a FAR more serious thing and also supported by the federal government.)

and where America is a commercialized society run by a rogue justice system.
Republicans who stomp their feet and scream about commercialization should be slapped in the face. Who do you think runs your party? Don't half of your initiatives have to do with letting businesses do whatever the hell they want?

But I suppose that is the grand secular vision for America, one where the sheep follow the wolf.
An absolutely amazing phrase coming from a member of a religion which has founded itself based on the entire principle of indoctrination through the indimidation of hell.

Lesser evils than respect, and honesty, certainly.
Yeah... uh, Kas, I don't know about you, but I think I'd rather have a country where black people are, y'know, people, than one where we're all nice to each other. Even when the occasional stupid white kid with a 78% average doesn't get to go to the university he wants to.

I mean, come on man, what sort of argument is that?

"Well, I want gender equality, a non-segregated society, and fair treatment for people of all religions, not just Christianity."

"Well... I want everyone to be really... nice! Yeah, nice, that's it."

It's always a good idea to stay far, far away from cults, especially one such as the Catholic Church of the 1600's.

No, it's not adoption. It's called the daycare system, and then the public school system. Women's place at home? Yes, if one has children. When one has impressionable young children, it's best to be with them teaching them the correct values rather than passing the buck and sending the kids to a brainwashing station, don't you think?

Why you constantly bring up pigmentation, I still have trouble understanding. It seems every debate that spawns here on TRF must be forced to receive some form of your 'White is right" phrase.

Well, Kas, given that "Christ-followers" are pretty much the only faith group which attempts to foist its religious values into the America's systems of government and education...

We're attempting to oust the current secular belief system, which is deeply imbedded in the corrupted government and society we have.

How does treating everyone the same not mean equality? If I do not differentiate in my standards from one man to the next, I treat them the same, with equality. If anyone thinks for a moment that affirmative action is anything but government supported racism, you're high. Yes, slavery is something from the past, a mistake made by many hundreds of greedy people, from the past. Yes, there are problems today because of what those people did, and it is something that needs to be dealt with, however, affirmative action is an incredibly stupid and biased way to do it.

Republicans who stomp their feet and scream about commercialization should be slapped in the face. Who do you think runs your party? Don't half of your initiatives have to do with letting businesses do whatever the hell they want?

I vote Republican only because they're the lesser of two evils.

Er, you must be thinking of a different sect.

You see the modern advances of our modernized age, and think "Progress!" I see a society corrupted at the core, headed down the road Rome traveled not too long ago.

The fact that you leave out, Kas, is that while the impressionable young might be recieving proper lessons on how to behave later in life, they are also starving, naked, and uneducated, because the poor single mother wasn't able to bring in any money because she was a good Christian woman who stayed at home.

Explain. How is going into a country far removed from America, targetting their civilian infastructure, killing tens of thousands of innocent people, sending more than a thousand US soldiers to their deaths, and failing to even gain control of the country despite "Mission Accomplished" being declared five and a half months ago (and note that more than 1000 of those who had died since then) less evil than not doing all that?

Yet you still openly support the administration that has helped us take more stides towards that end than any other administration in power yet... right.

But you see, Kas, we are making (some) progress.

Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves.
That's progress.

Ghanda taught us that Empires can be challenged without swords of guns or bombs.
That's progress.

And Canada, France, Russia, and fifteen million people worldwide showed us that we can still stand up to the United States and so "No".
That's progress.

I'm glad you see it my way, Kas.

Women's place at home? Yes,
Thank you, that'll be all.

It seems every debate that spawns here on TRF must be forced to receive some form of your 'White is right" phrase.
Well, let's see. You just posted a song about a time where everyone was nice, and respectful -- and extremely racist segregationists. So "pigmentation" might sort of come up, yeah.

We're attempting to oust the current secular belief system, which is deeply imbedded in the corrupted government and society we have.
How would you feel about that if you were a Jew, Kas?

Oh, wait, that's right -- America ain't for the Jews. Or the Muslims. Or the Hindus. Or the...

(If you ain't white...)

How does treating everyone the same not mean equality?
I'm glad you asked, Kas. Let's say, for instance, and this is just a random example, you kidnap an entire race of people and subject them to harsh labor with no rights. After you abolish slavery, you continue to force them to live seperate to you and make them second class citizens. Then, once you stop that, you continue to discriminate against them when it comes to job openings and education because, lo and behold, after a couple hundred years of segregation and slavery, the oppressors run an awful lot of @#%$! Giving them a bit of help when it comes to university admissions, in that instance, is called equality.

It's like this. If you treated everyone the same, you would just tell a person in a wheelchair to walk the @#%$ up the steps like everyone else. Would that be equality? No, of course not. That would be discrimination. So you build wheelchair access routes.

Yes, there are problems today because of what those people did, and it is something that needs to be dealt with, however, affirmative action is an incredibly stupid and biased way to do it.
That's nice, Kas. I'm glad you think so. Any reason why, or just because some of them damn black/brown/hispanic/etc. people might get into some of your hallowed (white) halls of learning?

(If you ain't white...)

I vote Republican only because they're the lesser of two evils.
And because they love Jesus.

Er, you must be thinking of a different sect.
Wait, wait. Christianity... hell... sin and damnation forever... god hates fags... world was created in seven days and I want it taught in school or America will go to hell... Jean Chretien and Pierre Trudeau (I don't expect you to know who they are) will burn forevermore... nope, I'm thinking of the right one.

You see the modern advances of our modernized age, and think "Progress!"
Well, some advances, Kas. For instance, modern medicine and democracy. Others, such as the advent of every-man-for-himself-motherfucker style conservatism, I can only shake my head at in dismay.

I see a society corrupted at the core, headed down the road Rome traveled not too long ago.
My god, I certainly hope so, Kas. America has been the biggest bully on the playground quite long enough.

Dolash: Any thread around here will probably changed into a war of words concerning religion or politics or something. If I saw Merry Christmas, but not Happy Honaka(sorry to everyone who is Jewish if I spelt that wrong), or Happy whatever some other religion celebrates, people will complain, and we will get another big argument.

Whose complaining? And whose arguing? This is a civilized debate.

I get what you are trying to say, Kas. And in a more perfect world, the answer would be yes. But unfortunately, it's not a perfect world as Drayson brings out:

...because the poor single mother wasn't able to bring in any money because she was a good Christian woman who stayed at home.

Drayson is entirely correct here. I mean, if we are going to target their civilian infrastructure, kill tens of thousands of innocent people, and send more than a thousand US soldiers to their deaths (and counting), the least we can do is actually take the bloody country.

Either that or say: F*ck the world, their problems aren't our problems.

Kas: You see the modern advances of our modernized age, and think "Progress!" I see a society corrupted at the core, headed down the road Rome traveled not too long ago.

Drayson: Yet you still openly support the administration that has helped us take more stides towards that end than any other administration in power yet... right.

LOL.. I don't know.. after its term the current Administration will have been made to look like the cause of everything from the decline of late night TV to cankers on the ass.

Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves.
That's progress.

Yeah, but he got shot. Now, if he would have had a lacky do it and get shot for it.. THAT would have been progressive.

Ghanda taught us that Empires can be challenged without swords of guns or bombs.
That's progress.

Unfortunately, Hitler taught us that Empires sometimes need swords, guns and many bombs.

And Canada, France, Russia, and fifteen million people worldwide showed us that we can still stand up to the United States and so "No".
That's progress.

What? No China?... heh.. But didn't they also show us how impotent it was?

Weren't like the Dark Ages after the fall of Rome?

America has been the biggest bully on the playground quite long enough.

I guess our only hope is China .. oh wait.. Korea is working on their nuclear program so perhaps there'll be somebody else with bully rights.

Responses are tailored to fit the situation. You don't bring a knife to a gun fight. But then, you don't pull out the knife the first time someone calls your mother fat.

Of course there are times that violence is necessary. Violence as a first response, on the other hand...
