oh, and one of the non-Toby Kieth (who I liked for two-three songs before he went big shot American) Country songs I do like, which befits Raktus's Spirit to Endeavor's....

The Greatest - Kenny Rogers

Little Boy
In a baseball hat.
Stands in the field
with his ball and bat.

Says, "I'm the greatest
Player of them all."
Puts his bat on his shoulder
And tosses up his ball

And the ball goes up
And the ball comes down.
Swings his bat
All the way around

The world's so still
you can hear the sound
The baseball falls
To the ground.

Noe the little boy
Doesnt say a word.
He picks up his ball
He is undeterred.

Says, "I am the greatest
There has ever been
And he grits his teeth
And he tries again.

And the ball goes up
And the ball comes down.
Swings his bat
All the way around.

The world's so still
you can hear the sound
The baseball falls
To the ground.
He makes no excuses.
He shows no fear
He just closes his eyes
And listens to the cheers.

Little Boy
He adjusts his hat
Picks up his ball,
And stares at his bat.

Says,"I am the greatest
The game is on the line."
Ans he gives it his all
One last time.

And the ball goes up
But the moons so bright.
Swings his bat
With all his might.

And the world's as still
As still can be.
And the baseball falls
And thats strike three.

Now it's suppertime
And his momma calls.
Little boy starts home
With his bat and ball

Says, "I am the greatest
That is a fact.
But even I didn't know
I could pitch like that."

Says, "I am the greatest
That is understood
But even I didn't know
I could pitch that."

It's pretty @#%$ stupid of you guys to bash someone else's music tastes just because they don't match your own... some people judge music by how complex it is or difficult to play... some people (like myself) judge music by how it sounds... most of the music I like is probably not that difficult... but music is made to sound good... music is subjective... you're not gonna convince someone that the type of music they like is bad just because you don't like it... let people listen to what they want to listen to and just agree to disagree...
It's pretty @#%$ stupid of you to write an entire post carefully dissecting my careful dissection of music based on the idea that a careful dissection of music is stupid. If music is all about "opinion" then it is within my right to bash any music I don't like and the people who like it because that is my "opinion". Wasn't that the entire @#%$ point of your post? Smacks of hypocracy doesn't it?

As to the rest of it, I find it interesting that you put forward as truth absolute that music is all about personal interpretation then in the next breath make a blanket statement about the purpose of music in society -- that is, to "sound good". Isn't that just your opinion? And to begin with, if I don't like a certain type of music and don't respect the people who listen to it, isn't it also likely that you won't be able to change that as another aspect of the same truth you have already identified -- that I can't chaange Jade's musical "tastes"?

You also seem to assume that my purpose in criticizing other people's music is to change their opinion. That is not my purpose. I do not give one single solitary drop of @#%$ what any of you do in your own spare time. I do it only for my own amusement, the amusement of others, and the fostering of a general level of awareness of the existence of a higher view of music and art. Though the last goal of course is a pipe dream on a Star Wars roleplaying board.

Thank you and goodnight.

That last bit about pipe-dreams isn't completely true.

I didn't listen to music at all before coming here, and now I'm seriously considering looking up some Matt Good CDs (is that his name again? I can't remember).

As opposed to what? @#%$ Pearl Jam? The last of the boring, typical grunge rock bands that were supposed to make their mark using superior songwriting, only Pearl Jam never did? They're most remembered for @#%$ the Do The Evolution video.

Nine Inch Nails
Mr Self Destruct

I am the voice inside your head
and I control you
I am the lover in your bed
and I control you
I am the sex that you provide
and I control you
I am the hate you try to hide
and I control you
I take you where you want to go
I give you all you need to know
I drag you down I use you up
Mr. Self-destruct
I speak religion's message clear
and I control you
I am denial guilt and fear
and I control you
I am the prayers of the naive
and I control you
I am the lie that you believe
and I control you
I take you where you want to go
I give you all you need to know
I drag you down I use you up
Mr. Self-destruct
I am the needle in your vein
and I control you
I am the high you can't sustain
and I control you
I am the pusher I'm a whore
and I control you
I am the need you have for more
and I control you
I am the bullet in the gun
and I control you
I am the truth from which you run
and I control you
I am the silencing machine
and I control you
I am the end of all your dreams
and I control you
I take you where you want to go
I give you all you need to know
I drag you down I use you up
Mr. Self-destruct

Lots of Nine Inch Nails found its way into this thread. Cool, and stuff.

Anyway, I'm at a loss for a personal theme atm, but I think this really sums up the Empire. Love the imagery in the first verse.

Black Sabbath's "War Pigs":

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind (alienkind)
Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of god has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, god is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
ALL RIGHT NOW!
