Notice concerning new topics of political or religious nature

We don't close or delete topics here very often. The Staff is of a mind (yes, this includes me) that people should be able to spout off and talk about what they want, so long as they remain respectful and fairly polite towards others.

I've closed two topics this evening and edited a few posts, because in my opinion they crossed that line. They singled out the so-called 'religious right' with their ridicule. I realize that conservatives, republicans, and other people from the right are few and far between here, but that doesn't make it fine and dandy to flame the ones that do hang around.

This is the Café, not the local BBQ.

For now, at least, I will be closing any topics of a serious nature if the original poster did not put some effort into composing the topic. If you want to post a link to an article, fine, but provide your own thoughts, not just a quote and some pseudo-cool one line spiel on how the essay proves god hates fags, superstars, and newts. This is a discussion forum, not a news broadcast center.

We really need to work on being a little more considerate of other people if we expect TRF to grow. If there is a need for a 'flaming forum' I'm sure one can be arranged. But I don't want that crap in the public discussion forum.

News is news because it's impersonal, Kas. Otherwise we call it an Editorial. The people have a right to know what-

By the by, Kas, some of those articles speak for themselves. It might be a hard thing to get your brainwashed head around, but it does happen.

From time to time.

If I wanted to hear a 12 year old whining about stuff that he doesn't know shit about, I'd go to TGC.

Shut the fuck up.

I must say that although people have the right to their opinion, I agree that we don't need clutter in the Cafe, and that free-speech or not it is not nice to insult one another, especially since this is just a message board. Kas is right in that anger and personal insults will accomplish nothing.

Perhaps, if Demo could limit himself to just one big thread, which could cover all political information? And perhaps keep off the personal attacks?

Demo is entitled to his opinion, so long as he shows respect, right?

I have to agree with this wholeheartedly.

Free speech is one thing , and I'm all for it, but respect for other peoples opinions and beliefs is equally important IMO.

Theres nothing wrong in disagreeing, but flaming people doesn't serve any constructive purpose, and isn't how proper intelligent debate should be conducted.

Also I think it also looks terrible , I mean who wants to join a board when all people do is argue and flame. Its not the best advert. (ok, obviously not everyone but you know what I mean).

...and Demos, of course there are those who share your frustration on certain issues but the fact is, the election is over, its done. Posting a trillon threads about the same thing starts to get a bit tiresome. I'd agree with Dolash on that one, post one thread , but not loads and loads.

Also , bear in mind this isn't just about you, its with regards to everyone on the board.

Almost the entire first page (spare only 2 or 3 threads) of TRF is composed of Bush bashing threads. Why don't you just turn this into the Anti Bush Faction, so I can quit the board now and actually stay away this time?

However, usually I just steer clear of this forum, it gets too ridiculous sometimes between the mass number of anti Republican threads and launching personal attacks against anyone who comments "this anti republican thread is stupid". I am glad you are addressing the issue.
