Greetins, I'm new to the forum.

....

Well, that was pretty straightforward, wasn't it?

Anyways, I had a few questions to fill in. Granted, I only briefly looked over the rules. (A lot seemed to revolve around common, RPG sensibilities and courtesies). Rather than rambling on with a needless introduction though, i'll cut to those.

1.) what's the status of Jedi/Dark Jedi/Sith. I saw some commentary about this in the rules, but nothing outside of the given notation that "everyone and their dog" is a jedi on most Star Wars games. While I know this is true and is a rather cliche approach to the game, being my first Star Wars game, one can't help but desire to write from that perspective, right? I was interested primarily in how the Religion, philosophies, and such have evolved in this time line.

2.) Can I become a Jedi/Dark Jedi/Sith/whatever they are now?

3.) Is there any sort of character approval process?

4.) Are there any formal system mechanics such as in DnD and the like? such as statistics, an inventory, etc?

Those are all my inquiries for the moment, hopefully they aren't too much to ask so initially.

Oh, and hi again.

1) They exist in various states. The Jedi Order has been disbanded but there are Jedi floating around. The Sith Order is currently under siege by the Palestar Crusade. There are solo rogue Jedi and Dark Jedi about but I don't know how many of them are active.

2) Maybe.

3) Yes. More that the Master needs to agree to take you on as a student. Since there is investment in training padawans, most people prefer to make sure that said padawan won't just bugger off.

4) A rank based system. Padawan < Knight < Master. If it's Knight veruses Knight persay, then it comes down to who's the most veteran if an agreement cannot be come to. Though we prefer to do a case by case based on situation.

Other than that, common sense rules. If you say... try to come in with a SSD, we will eat your soul. If you try to come in with an ancient Empire that voluntarily allowed itself to be dismantled, we will destroy you. If you say you're the descendant of a powerful well known Forcer like, say, Luke, we will mock you to an early grave.

Welcome to TRF. Don't be an asshat and you might make it. :D

Check, check, and check. I finally found a halfway decent Star Wars RPG! You have no idea how many poor RPGs make the decent one's damn near impossible to unearth on the net...

So, the requirement for being taken upon by a master is just activity? That sounds easy enough. Do a vast amount of writing experience, excellent grasp of the English language, and prior RPG experience count as factors?

If so, anyone want to take on a new padawan?

Anyhow, thank you for the assistance, Irtar. Your aid is much appreciated.

Welcome to TRF.

You seem to be coherent enough for me to believe that if you stick around you'll do just fine here.

Have fun.

Greetings, welcome to TRF.

It's my understanding that at the moment most of the new jedi and such are doing more of self training than taking on a master. Although that's just my understanding it may be different.

But once again welcome to TRF.

There aren't a whole lot of active Jedi or Sith apprentices right now from what I've seen. There a few Knights, like Irtar, who are still around, and yet more masters, like Leia or Vance.

It probably helps to have someone more experienced to train with, but it's not necessary. Both the Nightsisters and the Jensaarai are basically training themselves with no established masters or knights to help them.

You are not required to have a Master, but if you would like to use that format of training feel free to contact one. Everyone starts out at the default beginning level of Apprentice... just be responsible and realistic, and there won't be any trouble.

Welcome to TRF!

What are you looking to become... Jedi, Sith?

Padawan < Knight < Master

Irtar pretty much summed up the "Out of Character" method of ranking. Usually, no matter the character, they start out on "padawan" level. Depending on how much you write, contribute to TRF and the competency with which you write, you will level up to Knight or Master levels.

Any decision regaring Force Users (ie: a dispute regarding a duel) is handled by the Force Council. If you write a story where someone grants you the rank of Knight or Master, it will not be considered "in effect" at TRF until you have the blessing of the Force Council. So, to "rank up" your character, as it were, you need to petition the Force Council as outlined in the FAQ. There are also several examples of such petitions in the OOC forum.

As a group, the Jedi Order has been disbanded. However, to help you in all things Jedi, feel free to pm Leia Organa Solo.

There is an IC group called the Rogue Jedi Order on Ossus. The players of this group have come and gone and the galaxy has pretty much left them alone but if you want to explore being a Rogue Jedi, feel free to pm or catch Ahnk (as I believe he is the one who will control their fates/storyline).

The last of the "lightside" is the Jensaari Order. This is a relatively new group that is not to be confused with the canon Sith-supporters. We can assume there are canon-Sith supporters around but the creator of this Jensaari Order group on TRF has written definite light-side principles (Forging the Shards I believe is the rp). If you are interested in being a part of this group, please feel free to pm or contact Corise Lucern.

There is the Sith Order that probably has the most members and is the most united in terms of organization. However, they are currently being attacked by another faction of darkside force users under the guise of the Palestar Crusade. However, given the attack is still in it's infancy and the thread is hardly concluded, the actual damage to the Sith Order is as yet unknown. If you want to be a part of the Sith Order, please feel free to pm or contact Darth Vicirous (or Vance Jas).

The latest darkside force group is the Palestar Crusade. Not much is yet known about their motivations, philosophies, inner-workings but there are a handful of rp's that can give you an idea of what they are about. If you would like to join the Crusade, feel free to pm or contact Dolash or Beff Pike.

Wow, lots of responses. Let's see if I can address everything...

My personal goal was to be neither Sith of traditionally known Jedi, but rather after doing some reasearch I came across a hybrid of the two known as Dark Jedi. An excerpt from Wookiepedia, if I may?

Despite the fact that both groups called upon the dark side of the Force, Dark Jedi were not the same as the Sith, though the first group of the Dark Jedi were the predecessors of the Dark Lords in the ancient Sith Empire.
Vader's apprentice.
Vader's apprentice.

Dark Jedi was a collective and vague name of dark side practitioners that used Force powers and a lightsaber, not members of a certain organization; the Sith were a definite heritage of cult or ideology. Some Dark Jedi were allied to the Sith or other organizations, while others were loners. Because they were notoriously dangerous, unstable, and treacherous, Dark Jedi seldom formed well-organized groups on their own in order to expand their following or reinforce their strength. One notable exception to this was the Miraluka Dark Jedi Jerec and his retinue of minions.

The Sith would often seduce Dark Jedi to work for them, without really granting them any knowledge of Sith techniques. Yet most Dark Jedi were willing to serve the Sith, and saw it as a way to further their knowledge of the Force. Like the Sith, they usually used lightsabers with red blades, but were also known to use a wide variety of saber colors.

The Sith, however, was a cult that followed some codes and history, studied their own skills and techniques, and possessed secrets like Sith alchemy and Midichlorian Manipulation. Furthermore, after the Rule of Two was established, the Order of the Sith Lords was limited to only two members, a master and an apprentice, whereas Dark Jedi was not an organization and had no such limitations.

Many dark side practitioners, such as Count Dooku, considered the power of a Dark Jedi to be nothing compared to the power of the Sith. Other individuals, like Darth Vader, practiced both Dark Jedi and Sith techniques. According to Dooku, a prime difference between Dark Jedi and Sith is that the Sith "lack fear".

While many of you are probably far more versed in this than I could refer to myself, this pretty much demonstrates my goal. I wish to create a character with no true... historical or cult ties to the Sith, nor the order of Jedi that contrast them, more-so a character on a path of self-discovery, perhaps even a desire of great power after maybe previous rejection from the Sith. (Just a small character plot point on that spectrum).

It is for this idea I would wonder if it would be possible to create maybe an NPC master my character might have previously had?

But otherwise, I'm am relieved to find out I needn't a true master presently and can explore the game a as Dark Jedi on my own, at least to start off.

Are there any resources or references I can utilize or perhaps a decent nudge in the proper direction with which to get started?

Hey Calen, welcome to TRF.

Your Dark Jedi idea sounds decent, and plausible. Since it would be difficult to find a Dark Jedi Master to take you under his/her wing your idea to have an NPC Master is a good one.

As for getting started, I think it would be a good idea if you posted a bio here, http://therebelfaction.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=157.

After that, check out the FAQ here, http://therebelfaction.com/forums/faq.php?, and that should give you all the ammunition you need to get started.

If not, let us know what specific questions you have and someone will be more than willing to help you I'm sure.
