The Shadow's Eye

The cold winter rain fell as an ominous backdrop on the planet of Babali. The Planet was almost completely barren in terms of life, and inhabitants. To the universe the planet was an enigma, a forgotten pebble in the stream of time. Few knew of the planet and even fewer knew it's true secrets. Only one thing stood out on the Planet, The Corporation; and behind the corporation stood one man; Demitry Rushnik.

The Business man stood at a mighty 6'2 all draped in black attire. Demitry usually chose black for the way it made his presence known, the way it gave him power, but mostly because it was always easy to keep hidden when dressed in black. Demitry had been pacing around for almost an hour now, waiting for his 8 o'clock appointment. He was not a man most kept waiting but apparently, someone had not told this man the same thing. Mr. Anderson was late, and Mr. Rushnik did not like it when they where late.

<font color=red>"Mr. Rushnik? Mr. Anderson is here to see you"</font>

The Communicator buzzed to life as Mr. Rushnik's secretary Maria told him the news that his appointment had finally arrived. With a small smile Demitry tapped on the communicator lightly as he responded to Maria.

"Tell him I'll be ready in a moment. Also see what you can find out about Mr. Anderson. You know the routine."

<font color="red">"Yes, I certainly do, Mr. Rushnik."</font>

A thin drawn out smile played onto Maria's lips as one of her delicate fingers lightly traced the communications button.

<font color="red">"I certainly do."</font>

Her words were but a small whisper as she rose from her rolling chair, her black high heels making a click clack pattern as she exited her office, entering the waiting room.

<font color="red">"Mr Anderson?"</font>

The man known as Mr. Anderson arose from his seat, dropping the reading material that he had been reading onto the round table beside him.

Maria smiled thinly at the man, her light blue eyes showing warmth.

<font color="red">"Mr. Rushnik will be with you shortly. I was told to keep you company while you wait. I'm sorry, it should not be too much long, he's in a meeting, which is expected to end fairly soon. Can I get you anything while you wait? A drink, something to snack on, if you would like?"</font>

Mr. Anderson gave her what appeared to be a charming smile, but from what Maria could tell, there was more behind that smile than what could be seen by the naked eye.

He laughed softly, giving her a polite no Thank You.

A set of silence seemed to fall between the two, a silence that Maria would not let fill the room for long.

<font color="red">"If you don't mind Mr. Anderson, would you care to tell me about yourself? We here at The Corporation love to hear all about out business hopefulls."</font>

"I don't really know you see. I just got this strange card on the Holonet one day, saying if I had a problemt the Corporation could solve it..."

The small man sqiurmed in his seat, like a child who didn't know an answer to the teachers question.

"Maybe you can help by telling me just what it is you people do?"

Maria remembered The Corporations motto, "Don't ask, don't tell."

The Corporation did not believe in asking the questions, just the required ones. The corporation's clients did most of the asking, while the corporation itself made all the preperations. The corporation had a business to run, and they had to run the business smoothly, yet carefully.

Maria smiled coolly, her light blue eyes focusing on the small man's own eyes.

<font color="red">"We do whatever you need us to do, Mr. Anderson. We have a don't ask, don't tell kind of policy. You tell us what you want, we making the preperations. We get the job done, the first time through."</font>

<font color="red">"...So Mr. Anderson, you just tell me what it it is you want, and I can assure you, that it all will be well taken care of."</font>

"Well there's this guy at work, he's kinda been rising in the companies eye cause they say he might be you know "Force Sensative". They been thinking about giving him full payed leave to go become a Jedi, and he wants it too you know.... even got himself a lightsaber...."

Mr. Anderson had begun to rattle on like a babbling idiot.

"He is taking all the praise left and right, everyone is so intrested in him, well who cares, who cares weither he is "Force Sensative" or not? Why do they all act afraid of him? Are they afraid he might get mad at them and become a Sith? I think they are all just acting scared, but I'm not. I hate this guy, I hate him with a passion. I want to see him fail, I live to see him fail. The letter said you guys could solve my problem right? You think you could take care of someone like him?"

Maria rested the knuckles of her left hand underneath her chin, her right arm lay horizontally under her left arm. Her right hand delicately holding up her left elbow.

<font color="red">""Mr. Anderson, you've come to the right place. We here at the Corporation would be happy to do business with you. However, as you know, business does not come without a price..."</font>

She pursed her lips, looking at him questionably as silence filled the waiting hall again.

"Maria? Are you finished?"

The communicator beeped on again this time Mr. Rushnik's voice on the other end.

<font color="red">"We are sir."</font>

"Well Send Him in."

<font color="red">"Will do sir."</font>

Maria turned to Mr. Anderson and flashed him a fake smile.

<font color="red">"Mr. Rushnik will see you now."</font>

<font color=red>"Mr. Rushnik will see you now."</font>

A cold breeze swept in from the outer room as Maria showed Mr. Anderson in. Mr. Rushnik took only a moment to glance at the man and already figured him to look much like he did. The man was scrawny for his height and seemed like the typical slicer type, cept this one seemed short on brains. The man had on a pair of old-age glasses on seemed to wear them more for the look then eyesight, but be it as it may it made him only look weak.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Rushnik, I'm...."

Mr. Anderson was cut short as Demitry raised a big hand up silencing the man.

"I know who you are Mr. Anderson, what I do not know is what you want."

"Well as I was telling your secretary, there's this guy at work, he's kinda been rising in the companies eye cause they say he might be you know "Force Sensitive". They been thinking about giving him full payed leave to go become a Jedi, and he wants it also you know even got himself a lightsaber, a blue one....."

Demitry snarled at the mere mention of a Lightsaber, much less the word Jedi.

"A Force user...."

"Yeah, that's what he is a Force user."

Mr. Anderson tried to make himself sound knowledgeable by using big words like "Force User". but Demitry could see through his Facade easy enough and could tell the man was dumber then a Bantha.

"We'll kill him for 50,000 Credits."

"WHAT?!?!?!?!

Mr. Anderson seemed shock at the thought of killing the man, after all this work he had never thought murder to be the answer.

"I'm not sure I understand what you mean Mr. Rushnik. I thought this was a Corporation. I've only heard of you guys making ships and vehicles, never anything about murder...."

Demitry let out a frightening laugh.

"You think things like that would be public Mr. Anderson? It's true we are a corporation and we do make a lot of money for that all, but our Main Goal is hidden in the shadows. We are Force Hunters you see. People come to us seeking help and we offer them the answer, but at a price, one much steeper then the 50,000 I already mentioned."

Mr.Anderson gulped slowly, showing some fright towards the large man.

"What do you want?"

"If you are to carry out this mission we would need total secrecy. You could never tell ANYONE about what happened here. If you tell people I'm afraid we would have to eliminate you and anyone you told."

Demitry threw Mr. Anderson a Holo-Pad and smiled.

"If you want us to kill your co-worker then sign on the dotted line and transfer your funds as a donation to our corporation. If not then you can turn around and walk straight out the door. I am afraid I cannot say much for your safety if you do so thought because you know far too much..."

Mr. Anderson smiled underneath his glasses, almost as if he could see a promotion coming his way.

"I'll do it."

Mr. Anderson quickly did everything Mr. Rushnik asked of him and explained the details of what would happen. It was all old news to Demitry but he just smiled and saw the man out.

"You should hear from us within a weeks time."

Demitry turned back towards his office but stopped to glance at Maria for a moment.

"Go see that Mr. Anderson speaks to no one on his way to his transportation, then after we are sure we can trust him come back here, we must discuss plans."

<font color=red>"Yes Sir."</font>

Demitry smiled one last time.

"Oh and Maria, make sure he doesn't see you."

Demitry laughed as he walked back into his office and closed the doors tightly behind him.

"Oh and Maria, make sure he doesn't see you."

Maria smiled slyly as she walked down the hall following after Mr. Anderson. Mt Rushnik's own laughter echoing down the hall as she walked.

<font color="red">"You can be sure of that, Mr. Rushnik, very sure."</font>

She laughed lightly, catching up with Mr. Anderson. She watched him jump in fright as she whispered into his ear.

<font color="red">"You're a very lucky man, Mr. Anderson. Mr. Rushnik gave you quite a deal. Don't turn on him, or you'll be paying with more than just your money."</font>

The two came closer to Mr. Anderson's form of transportation, if it could have even been considered transportation, it sure did not look that way. Maria tapped the scrony man on the shoulder lightly, he turned toward her and she handed him a holo-pad and a pen.

<font color="red">"Complements of The Corporation, have a good day sir. It will be a pleasure doing business with you."</font>

She smiled warmly and without another word she strolled off.

<font color="red">I've got my eye on you...</font>

Maria smiled smoothly, secretly taking pleasure in the hidden device that she had left in Mr. Anderson's pen.

She went to hiding within the shadows as she watched Mr. Anderson leave. Ten minutes later she found herself back with Mr. Rushnik.

<font color="red">"Now what can I do for you, sir?"</font>

She watched the director's eyes light up with fire as he smiled thinly. Only Maria knew the true hidden meaning behind that smile of his.

"We've got a Mission."

Mr. Rushnik eyed Maria cold and methodically as he handed her a Data Pad with the mission objectives.

"As it stands Mr. Anderson gave us very vague details on the Target. You'll have to go in yourself and find the Target, get whatever info you can and eliminate him when I give the Order."

Demitry handed Maria a small Tracking Locator.

"Now I assume you put a transmitter on Mr. Anderson correct?"

<font color=red>"Of course Sir."</font>

"Very good. tomorrow you shall head out to his office and get information. you shall go undercover of course and avoid all contact with Mr. Anderson, we don't wanna risk having to kill him. Also you shall keep only transmission with me on this mission. Understood?"
  • Posted On: Mar 16 2002 6:55pm
<font color="red">"Understood."</font>

Maria turned the tracking locator around over in her hand, giving it a quick check through to make sure that it was in proper working order.

She set the device onto Mr. Rushnik's desk, meeting his eyes afterward.

<font color="red">"Will that be all, Mr. Rushnik?"</font>

She wished she and Mr. Rushnik could be on a first name bases with one another, but she did work for him. Working for him meant that she would have to treat him as boss. She longed to call him by his first name though, and she longed to be more than just a secretary, his secretary...

"Yes Ms. Vasquez, that shall be all for today. I suggest you hey a good nights rest. We have a lot to do tomorrow."

Mr. Rushnik said his goodbyes to Maria as he saw her off. Tomorrow would defiantly be a long day in terms of work but it was his job that brought him pleasure, not the money...

"Another Force User down. Excellent."

Demitry whispered to himself as he ran a finger over a scar crossing over most of the left side of his face. The Mark was from a lightsaber and from an incident almost no one knew about. Demitry laughed to himself a bit thinking about how one little incident made him the Rich man he was today. Thinking back maybe he would have to thank someone, but that would have to wait another day. The Sun had set long ago and the night was just only beginning, he would have to make preparations for tomorrow. Preparations that would take all night.

The sound of Maria's black high heels clicking as she walked seemed to echo doudly as she traveld down the corridor the led to her own private chambers.

She had a busy day ahead of her tomorrow, yet she had something more than the mission on her mind.

Maria's chambers were as dark as any room could be, except for a small lamp light that cast small shadows of light about her room.

She sighed heavily as she plopped onto her bed, crossing her legs across the bed as she lay down. She placed her arms behind her neck and then closed her eyes, thinking of what she really wanted out of her life.
