I wonder what would actually happen if a typhoon that size or larger ever actually did hit the United States?

Hmmm. Depends on where it hit, and how far inland it went. I think a worse case scenario on the east coast would be it hitting Florida first, then exiting into the Gulf of Mexico, and then heading up the Mississippi river, causing torrentiral rains and massive amounts of flooding, before curving back over the New England states and dumping out it's remnants over there.

On the West Coast, basically storm surge combined with rainfall would garauntee that the western ten miles of California would sink back into the sea, or everything would be buried in massive mudslides. But on a bright note, the big drought out there would end.

And actually, in my opinion, that storm doesn't look as frightening as the strongest ever Atlantic Hurricane, Gilbert, back in 1988:

This storm covers everything from cuba to the north, the yucatan penisula to the west, Jamacia to the east north east, and central america to the south.

And just to be in the eye of that storm. I wonder what someone would see? Quite frightening, I think.
