The book is great, and the movie with Gregory Peck isn't bad either. I actually bought the book in hardcover.

The only book I liked a lot that we read in class was Alas, Babylon. A good movie that is somewhat similar in plotline is Red Dawn.

I've read dozens of books through school that have proven brilliant. To Kill a mockingbird and 12 angry men (both gregory peck movies, who'da thunk he was gay?) were damn fine.

Meanwhile we read The Hobbit in yr 7 and Machiavelli's The Prince & Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra in year 12.

Although by the sounds of the american schooling system, i somehow doubt many of you would have covered that kind of stuff in school work.

I read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings when I was 12.
