Wii is supposedly not going to have the same supply problems as the PS3 (because Sony is retarded and didn't learn from the LAST time this happened, apparently). Tell him to sell this one, double his money, and buy another one in a few weeks...
The Wii is basically a heavily updated and improved Gamecube, hardware-wise. It speaks the same languages. Nintendo also gets great yields on all of i's hardware, so almost every chip made goes out the door and into a Wii.
Sony? When the Cell processor was being designed, IBM had engineers quit because Sony A) wanted the impossible B) kept changing the design spec. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/07/13/ibm_sony_cell_yield_revelation/ So the yields on the processor are crap, hence a terrible lack of PS3s. This also means that the PS3 is incredibly expensive to make.
