On Epics we check our members list every day and delete lots of spammers at the email notification stage. They somehow get past the captcha too. We've seen some scary stuff manage to get posted. So we put all new members in a moderation queue too. But if they look like a real person we'll go ahead and let them in.

It's not hard if you just do it every day (I have a job and a SO and a life too). It's when they get backed up that it gets annoying.

How hard would it be to create a "spam filter" programming that would block walls of text or more than two-three hyperlinks in a row? Often the spam posts are nothing but hyperlinks or broken hyperlinks.
