Ways a war can go.

I don't like suspense, it makes me sweat, isn't good for the health, and keeps me up at night. So maybe joining a long-term war game role-playing site was not the best idea, eh?

But anyways, some of the more interesting things that wander into one's mind when thinking on the subject of war in the galaxy is this: What If?

So I want to hear some of your Hypothesies (spelling?) on what you think will, can, or should happen.

I've got a few, and I feel like sharing them.

#1. The Galactic Empire wins its' major engagements and decimates GC until it is a mockery of its' former self, ship-less, shipyard-less, and powerless. Perhaps even petitions for GCs' disbandment as we fail to prove how the organization could hold IC.

This seems fairly possible, although utter annihalation through battle is a rare thing at TRF it seems. It would make for a very different Role-Playing environment. With the Coalition gone, the Empire would be the clear winner in this war, and all of the Coalitions' old allies would have to surrender or be trounced, because suddenly the Empire can call in all those men on the sidelines, trying to see who'll be the winner before engaging the enemy. Suddenly we've got an Empire like the one in the Movies, big and unstoppable. Sure, there would be those concerned with keeping the balance, perhaps creating trouble for TNO. But I could definetly see fleeting beginning to drop off as people start to settle their factions into comfy international positions and arrangements.

#2. The Empire wins, but signs what they call a peace treaty, but is more like a document of submission. The Coalition and the rest of the lightsiders are laughed off in humiliation and shame, and the Empire basks in the glory of being the "Great Heroes", to general applause.

This would be weird, because the lightside wouldn't be dead, per se, but we'd be like a trained pet of the Darkside. Dancing, smiling, and signing documents and shaking hands whenever the Empire felt it was needed. The Atmosphere would be one of suppresed hatred and smugness masked with big politically-correct smiles. The common role-player would find the Empire to become, quite suddenly, quite controlling, but what are you going to do about it, Johnny-writesalot, nothing, because Big Brother-er, I mean our Benevolent Friend the Emperor is watching. That'd be pretty cool, if painfully depressing for IC characters.

#3. Endless war. The two forces, that of dark and light, just keep rebuilding and attacking relentlessly forever and until the end of time. This is very unlikely, but if it happened it would probably eventually slide into some other situation as listed here.

If, however, it remained as a constant state of affairs, could you imagine that? Living in a world where always, somewhere, someone was leading the latest charge at enemy ranks? It would soon see all us fleeting RPers exhausted straight out of office.

#4. Good Guys gain upper hand. Rather unlikely at this point (we're not the best stratiegic thinkers, you may have noticed) but still not completely impossible. In this situation, the Empire is beaten, and retreats to lick its' wounds. A very unlikely situation indeed but still possible, even if the Empire would rebuild twice as fast as we would be.

Still, this would be a nice change, albeit temporary, imagine that eh? All of a sudden the Empire is beat and the Galaxy sees a unified image of good. Of course, as Churchill put it:

"This is not the end. This is not even the beginning of the end. However, it is the end of the beginning."

There'd be a lot more battles until one side fell, but it would definetly put the two groups on equal stance again.

#5. Complete and utter victory for good. This is, quite possibly the least likely result of all. It's more likely that we both get done in by a computer virus, or the Yhuzann Vong appear out of nowhere. But hey, the odds are still visible without a microscope. Maybe.

This'd be a turn-up for the books, for sure. Suddenly everything becomes peaceful, and a new, decent, free age is ushered in. Lots of waving and cheering. However, I doubt it would last for long, TRF doesn't work that way. When the fleets fail to conquer, the Sith are there to take up the slack. It wouldn't be long before they stirred up a rebellion or traitorism or something. Then there would be plenty to fill the ranks of some new evil faction, twenty giddy individuals appearing at once, taking over a planet apiece and working on the principal that we're too good to attack without provocation (which we are). Peace is not a natural state for mankind, sadly.

#6. I just realized one more, even less likely possibility then #5. Bad guys and Good guys get together, sign some sheets, and leave each other the hell alone. I wouldn't mind that personally, hell I had nothing against the Empire until they got big ideas and declared the Venerations Campaign.

This is so unlikely it's barely worth mentioning. Some might say that even though Germany had been controlled by evil, cruel, sadistic Nazis they were able to make peace with the Allies. No, no. The difference is that the Allies won a war, leaving the Nazis little choice on wether they wanted to agree or not. Plus, the people themselves and most of the government weren't evil, just the men at the top, who then showed the world to their people through flaming glasses (i.e. made everyone besides them look evil and an enemy).

But if by some miracle (And it would have to be a helluva one, I already tried to open negotiations at Corellia but they wouldn't listen) they decided to pack it in, split space fairly between us, and leave us the hell alone forever, then I envision an unusual galaxy of peace, along with some good-natured ribbing over 'old times'. Probably plenty of intelligence operations and stuff, but that'd be all hushed up. To be quite frank this would result in more peace then any of the above-mentioned theories.

So go ahead and let me hear yours, I'd well like to know what you guys think could happen.

Oh, boo. TNO could have wiped you out entirely during Venerations.

There's a reason they didn't, you know.

I have mine, but Im not stupid enough to post my plans so Imma side with #3.

GC and TNO continue to take planets on the side, keeping the main battles going on forever. Minor groups continue to support the superpowers loses with their own fleets while the yards continue to pump out more and more ships...

These arn't plans, just random theories on how the tides of war could turn, is all.

And I believe we could have handled ourselves in Venerations. We weren't great but we were doing pretty damn good. Don't think so highly of yourself, Ms. Drayson, I followed the battles quite closely and the fights were a lot tighter then you think.

*shrug*

I wasn't a member of TNO at the time. However (imo) the only reason you did so "well" at Mon Calamari was because both the Swarm and the Crimson Regime pulled out to assist in smashing Tholatin.

All I know is that we all came out alive, damaged but standing, and that's good enough for me.

If we did that we might as well move "The New Order" to the lightside links.
