Om... You of all people know I have my own RP planned. You also know and have borne witness over messanger to what a bitch the events of my life tend to be to keep me away from sitting down and writing. Low blow man, low blow.

Gue, man.

I thought you loved the low blow.

Sorry about that. I assumed you had more than that in the system, something like 20-30, considering the size of your fleet. That seemed reasonable, but I guess I was underestimating the actual power of these things.

At 6 thousand meters, all they do is project gravity fields. I'd say 4-5 is a good estimate, maybe 6-7. There's no point having more than that, since, well, gravity is only cumulative to a degree.

Still, without that impact, I pretty much have no post, because that chance happening is the basis of the whole post. I'll see if I can figure out a way to remedy that, but otherwise I would appreciate it if you would let it go - just RP that you have a couple extra shieldships.

No.

I have no intention of asking you to throw out your post; afterall, I liked it, and I don't think it's worth scrapping and reworking. But to allow something so infinitesimally unlikely is not something I'm willing to compromise on.

I don't see you on AIM; if you're around, beep me. If I'm not asleep, I've already drafted an idea in my head.

Regarding fleet positions, though, as I said I'm willing to say I'm at 90 degrees to you and the other Imperial fleet. The angle on which I'm coming in makes it reasonable that one of my ships, if it overshoots, would likely hit the shieldship closest to your flank. After that, I would say it's reasonable that you shift your fleet to protect the others, so destroying any more is going to be quite difficult.

I disagree; the logic doesn't work out, because the only way for you to get a clean shot at a shieldship would be if you came from behind, and you know how much I hate that word.

My point in saying that is that those resources are not something that we can affect, other than a virus (assuming we knew that you were using such a network, which we don't).

Element of surprise! It's OKAY to be at a disadvantage when faced with a new opponent.

While it may have been mentioned in passing, there is a certain aspect of ambiguity there that makes it hard to even write a post in response to you.

See above. Also, ask questions.

If I seem rude and offensive it's because I'm a jerk, but if you talk things out, things can usually work out just fine.

Far be it from me to suggest a return to bean counting, but there is a balance that I think we all need to find regarding resources that will be used with/against other players.

Re: Jamming

See: Beff re jamming. It you could just ignore it selectively, it wouldn't be jamming.

The reason they took so long to clear the code was not the delay in transmission/decoding, but the fact that it was an older code.

I was talking about how long it took to get the transmission itself., not to clear the code.

Interaction between an astromech and a computer, such as when R2 plugs into a system and immediately pulls up diagnostics, etc., is a better example of interaction between droids and binary code.

Not really, because those are designed to interface with droids AND you know what you're looking for and how to input commands. It's a malleable system with an interface you can use, NOT a wall of ceaseless text.

Furthermore, we are 35-40 years removed from RotJ by this point, How much has technology on earth advanced during the last 30-40 years? Wouldn't it be reasonable to think that Star Wars technology has advanced at least that much, if not more? So the processing speed of a computer, not to mention the capacity of an astromech brain, would have drastically increased.

See: Smarts re technology atrophy. It's been a long standing TRF tradition.

Fine. Any ships that make the jump to lightspeed can fly through other ships. Whatever.

...it's not that he hit a ship, it's what he hit and how.

Fine. You can take out Reigns with two shots of your PL Battleship.

...they have superlasers?

It just had too many impossibilities that you just couldn't live with, work around or proceed forward with and requires massive rewrites. Yes, we get it.

It will require minor rewriting to fix fundamental flaws that I saw with it. Not a massive, from the ground up rewrite. Like I said, it's a good post, it just does things I am not comfortable with.

Great work, by the way. Probably one of the best fleet-related posts (individually) that I have read in, literally, years. You know it's a hit when your reader can actually see the events unfolding in his minds eye. I thought it was totally bonus!

I'll echo this, especially the fighter parts. Was very well written.

What is/are the Cre'Ar?

I dunno Beff, did you mean the Cree'Ar? :P

If, for Cataclysm, they are a plot device... they will have to be overcome. Flaws will have to be found, flaws will have to be exploited so that, in the end, we can all, "Win the day!"

I'm willing to lose, I'm just not willing to compromise what I've created. I like to think I've made a faction that offers unique challenges when pushed. I think it's unfortunate that people equate “unique” to “unfair”.

Actually, TNO equates "unique" with "inferior". That's why you're supposed to lose.

Generalization. I don't equate unique with inferior. In fact, I like unique stuff. I just like seeing it used fairly. Ahnk has relieved my concerns regarding this in an AIM conversation, though, so it's a moot point anyway.

I'm going to post tomorrow and won't take the time to read this thread for a lot of reasons, but I'm going to make two things clear right now:

1) Jamming. I put up an R&D with line of sight lasers for back up comm. Expect my ships to be in full contact with one another and capable of sending messages to Wes, though he may or may not be able to reply depending on what you all agreed upon but I haven't read.

2) Shieldships. At least my large capital ships have CGTs on them, which will be able to view the gravity fields across the Cree'ar fleet. The fact that the gravity is being projected by the shield ships will be fully visible on the CGT readouts.

You're late to the party, Kach.

1. I've never blocked line of sight, but it's not as fast or capable as standard data transmissions because, well, you need a line of sight.

2. As mentioned, all of my ships are manipulating, modifying, or creating gravity in some way. Trying to sort that out reliably would be quite the undertaking.

Eh?

Sorry to drift off topic, but I've just noticed Kach's sig.

What's all this about nipples???

I don't remember that!...
