The board rocks, or does it?

Okay, so, what do you like about the new board?

Coversely, is there anything you miss from the old board that you would like us to make an effort to import?

Just a discussion piece brought to you by Ahnk.

I love the new features, the style capabilities, and I especially love the search engine.

The only thing I really liked about ezBoard was how simple its display was. Without gobs of custom titles it put out a really simple display that was easy to read and use. That, though, we can emulate without trouble.

Things I like:

-Someone gave me admin powers and OS hasn't taken them away yet
-The Skins. Duel rocks the socks.
-I don't have to mark a forum as read, since it does it itself with cookies.
-No more idiots who type all in capitals. Try it. :D

Things I miss:

-The menus. I was just getting used to them.
-A sidebar.
-A pm from EZBoard every five minutes telling me the server might be going down, but it will be back up in approximately six hours, and in the meantime please visit their sponsers at Lycos.uk, vbulletin.org, and blacksonblondes.com.

Overall, I like the new board. And you guys?

OH MY GOSH ITS IN ALL CAPITALSANDIMNOTPUTTINGINANYSPACESWHATSHALLWEDOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHRRRRRGGGG

Hmm, we could probably put the menu's back in. This thing did come with its own drop downs... Yet another thing to look into.

[edit: You were saying something about all capitals, Ahnk?]

YES I WAS KAS

It automatically formats them out, though I suppose they can be editted back in.

I like it so far.

How does vBulletin compare, in terms of features, to PHPBB?

Waaaay more features than phpBB. If you hack your phpBB board until the cows come home you might be able to get the functionality level of vB 2.2. But hacking is tough, as you put more and more on. Eventually the automatic mod installer won't work anymore because of all the other mods, and then you have to do it by hand. With big ones like the Subforum mod, that can be a royal pain.

In my opinion, the closest free competitor to vB would be Invision Power Board. PhpBB 2.2 may be able to compete, but it's probably months down the road still. The devs won't announce a release date.

Not to say that phpBB isn't any good. We used it for Vinda-Co for several months, until Seth let the hosting slide. ;) If you want a free ezBoard killer, phpBB does the job just fine. It's simple to setup, the templates aren't that hard to edit, it's pretty simple to administrate, etc.

Things I like:

-The Skins.

Things I dislike:

-When I click back on a page, the entire TRF main page gets marked as read, even though I haven't even gone down to the second forum yet to read the next set of new threads.
-No menus.
-No sidebar.

That's an odd bug, Grevious. You might want to try deleting your cookies, and see if that fixes it.
