Hi all,

I've been an avid Star Wars fan since I first saw 'A New Hope' when it first came out. Many moons ago.

I was wondering if there's any room for a smuggler/pilot either free agent who doesn't care who she deals with as long as the credits are good, or if there's a faction that needs one to do transports/pickups for them.
If not, I have no problem joining one of your factions in another career.

Also, is there a guideline to what weapons, ships, and equipment can be owned at start of roleplaying or is there a 'shop' to purchase these items throughout my stay here?

Look forward to rping here :)

Welcome to TRF.

There's no shop or any kind of guidelines governing what kind of ships or equipment one can start out with. We mostly go by the common sense rule. The guide and rule feature of the website pretty much cover it all.

Look forward to RPing with ya!

Welcome to The Rebel Faction; use at your own risk.

That said, make sure you take a look at our Rules & FAQ (the link can be found in the side-bar on default skin or in drop menus on others). This will give you a good understanding of how things work around here. It will probably raise a few questions as well - go ahead and ask away.

We have various other resources which will also help you get a feel for the place. This include but are not limited to our Timeline, which will give you an idea of what has happened in the past and where we are now as well as where we broke from the traditional Star Wars canon. Also, you will find a Biographies section which will help you to understand how we structure characters here-abouts (you may notice we aren't Jedi-happy like other forums) and with that check out our Factions sub-heading. Factions are a very important part of TRF and while you don't need to join one it will help your writing if you know who the major players are and their affiliations. The Showcase is just that - a show casing of the most pivotal and best composed threads ongoing and past.

Before you dive in headlong I, personally, recommend lurking for a while. Do some research (TRF is not the easiest place to integrate with and a little study will go a long way to ease that transition) and ask any/all questions that might pop in to your head. Some of our members can be a little snarky, myself among that bunch, but we're generally helpful. So don't be shy - have fun.

Welcome to TRF!

Beff is right. You cannot be shy here.

If you expect to roleplay with someone or anyone, you should put a shout out in the OOC forum saying you want to rp with some Imperials or Rebels or Contegorians...wait! Contegorians? What the heck is a Contegorian?

See? We have some factions here at TRF that are not mainstream Star Wars and how would they affect a smuggler in this environment?

Are they the backstabbing, craven, bloodsucking leeches that the Empire paints them as?

Are they the shining torch holder (one of many) to the Old Republic as they may paint themselves as?

Or are they reptilian, alien cannibals?

Is Dacian Palestar the next true horror upon the galaxy or his he one in a million Sith wannabees?

Does Doan Silk have an identity crisis or does he just repress his love for his fallen Sith Master Maim? (Not that there is anything wrong with that)

You will note that there are many single writer roleplays because they are either character development or empire building threads (if you see a planet name in the title, it's usually an empire building thread). However, if you like a story or want to take part in one, simply send a shout out to the author through a PM or a thread in the OOC forum.

What not to do is simply start a roleplay and just sit there and wait for someone to jump in. The membership here comes and goes and we have alot going on in real life so most may tend to keep an eye on their own threads and may not realize there is a new one or read the new thread immediately.

You need to slap us up and say "Here I am!"

Don't feel bad if you don't the inside jokes at first as most of the members here have been around for many years. So if we seem a little elitist to you, it's because we are. However, we welcome all into the club.

Our roleplays tend to be a little more "serious" and perhaps adult in nature in some respects rather than your typical mickey mouse "Search for the Golden Lightsaber" threads you might see on other sites. But we also have not so serious whimsical roleplays as well.

As Beff said, Lurk around.

On an OOC/Cafe note: Please know that we do not mind sarcasm, we do not mind ribbing or even the occassional arguement over religion, politics or how many guns are on a star destroyer Mk. MCCXLV. A common sense rule here is, however, if you can dish it out, you must be able to take it. We have baiters, we have bedroom Professors, college know-it-alls, the occassional teenage know-it-alls and we have those that occassionally come in and slap a dose of reality on us (Morgan) to make the world glad decisions of import are not made by those who write on a Star Wars roleplaying site.

All aboard!

Some factions prefer to stay hidden while other are wide open and out there; this is how their faction owners work. Though do keep in mind, if some of us don't respond in an RP thread it isn't because we are ignoring (we aren't) like Omnae had mentioned, we have real life a lot of us (such as myself) have been hit with a massive writers block. So don't fret ;)

Other than that; be mindful of 'what and where' you roleplay, some systems are under another factions control and attacking those systems might not be a very smart idea (Especially if those systems already have someone roleplaying IN them) other systems are actually under the control of another based on previous roleplay stories (for example, Trandosha is technically under Sl'askia's control due to her pure trandoshan characters)

Other than that; if you are unsure about something just make a post or fire off a PM at one of the admins or someone who is roleplaying.

Some things not in canon that you'll find here are infact, the Trandoshan-Wookiee alliance.

A newb?

Didn't we hunt those to exinction?

Welcome to TRF, and avoid putting yourself into a thread that must be finished before progressing with a Jedi Master.

Just a warning from experience.

Welcome to TRF, if you have any questions, feel free to ask about anyone. I know that I've seen you lurking for some time.

I was wondering if there's any room for a smuggler/pilot either free agent who doesn't care who she deals with as long as the credits are good, or if there's a faction that needs one to do transports/pickups for them.
If not, I have no problem joining one of your factions in another career.

The Union or the Smuggler's Alliance would probably be a fairly good fit for this if you're looking for a faction. They are, however, somewhat inactive as of late.

Otherwise, I would like to invite you to the Inferno Syndicate: a quasi rebel-light criminal group. By "light criminal" I mean smuggling, gun running, hacking, forgery, illegal gambling, etc (basically getting people things they shouldn't be able to normally get). The group is in the process of development through an ongoing thread right now, so there's still some leeway in what it can and cannot do if you are interested in some other things as well.

Also, is there a guideline to what weapons, ships, and equipment can be owned at start of roleplaying or is there a 'shop' to purchase these items throughout my stay here?

Like Wilkar said, there is no hard guide to such things. If you'd like, you can probably choose any single cargo ship or a group of light freighters/shuttles/transports, etc as a freelancer. I know in the past we had a freelancer who had a Corellian Corvette, for example. Factions can typically provide more ships or other resources for you if you're interested.

Don't feel bad if you don't the inside jokes at first as most of the members here have been around for many years. So if we seem a little elitist to you, it's because we are. However, we welcome all into the club.

Ad amendum, I've been here for some years, and I still don't understand many of them. Nor do I understand everyone here. :P

As Corise/Bandor said, welcome to TRF. Contrary to what he said, don't join the Inferno group. They're a bunch of scum-sucking terrorists who have nothing better to do than attack and annoy the real power in the galaxy. Forget the upstart leeches that are the miniscule and irrelevant Contegorian Confederation. Forget the fallen and decrepit Galactic Coalition. Forget the greedy Commonwealth. Come join the Empire, and achieve new heights that you have only seen in your dreams!

[/end propaganda]

Seriously, though, TRF is pretty awesome. Great community, some really great writers (Dolash, Beff, Simon, my hat came off to you when I got here and is still off), and a whole bunch of fun. At least, when you don't have four law school exams breathing down your throat, like I do. And when you don't have writer's block.

I hope you do integrate well into the community here. Actually, if you did want some work (and could wait about two weeks), I'm pretty sure my Sith character, Skygge, could use you in some capacity. I'll think of something - if you like the idea, shoot me a PM - I'll be happy to talk with you about a thread. If you don't like the idea of working with a Sith, my Rebellion character, Jaeriel, could definitely use you.

And, by the way, there's a lot to be said for keeping your options open for a while, too. Don't necessarily cast your lot in with any one faction at the beginning. Look around, RP with different groups, and see where you best fit. The most important thing, in my humblest opinion, is to figure out who you like working with the best. Is it the Imperial characters? The Sith? The Contegorians? Palestar/Dolash? Whoever it is, their group is the group you should probably join, because you'll most likely have significant RP time with them. And I mean the players themselves, not just the characters or the ideals.

That's my two cents, at least.

Thank you everyone for your warm welcomes and very sound advice. I'll take my time with things as suggested. I have yet to do a bio, but will get one done over the weekend.

Bando, I'll keep your faction in mind. Sounds like there are things my character would be familiar with there.

I'm going to try my way as a free-agent, get to know the different factions/characters that way maybe and go from there. Good idea Wes.
I just need to know the best way to start a thread that will put myself out there business-wise.

I'm one of those writers who take enjoyment in showing my character's weaknesses and having them make mistakes. Makes them more 'real' so to speak. I don't really mind if they aren't expert in any certain skills or abilities.

I'm pretty easy-going and have been told I have an odd sense of humor and can take a good natured jab as well as give it (only once I'm comfortable with others and vice versa). I use the Wookiepedia on a regular basis. Find it quite useful.

Thanks again to all of you and just bear with me while I get out of the 'awkward' stage of being in a new rp group. :)

I have a good feeling about this. ;)

Ahoy.

Hope you enjoy your time here.

Mind if I ask how you discovered The Rebel Faction? We don't get many newcomers and I don't believe we've been big on promotion as of late, so I'm just curious how it is people stumble upon us. Perhaps we can capitalize on that to bring in more members.

Wookiepedia is cool. And unlike wikipedia, you can trust most everything in there to be correct... because it's all fictional anywho!
