Midi-chlorian test

Draco's shuttle gently eased out of hyperspace, revealing the moon-sized space station ahead of him. Draco hardly noticed this, however, as he was lost in thought. The reason for Draco coming to this station was to take the midi-chlorian test. He was perfectly aware that he could take the test anywhere, but this was the only place where he could be certain that the results would remain anonymous. If he took the test anywhere other than here then the Empire, the Republic and the Jedi would be swarming over him in a matter of days. His shuttle docked on the 77th floor of the station, directly outside med level.

Draco was already almost certain that he was force-sensitive. He had suspected it from the beginning, but recent events had confirmed his suspicions. He had the same dream every single night, an ancient temple in the middle of a vast jungle surrounded by dark-robed figures. Every time he touched an object, he had very faint flickers of who had been near it. An ambassador who had angered him fell to the ground, screaming in pain without warning. When he became extremely angry, objects flew away from him, as if propelled by his rage. This would have to stop before he hurt himself. He felt that the test was unnecessary, but took it anyway at Hlormalen's urging.

The second he stepped onto the station, images assaulted his mind. Draco used all of his willpower to hold these images back. He would have to stay focused. A pair of automatic doors led to the med-level administration. He forced a smile and strolled in the direction of an attractive nurse.
"Hello, I'm here for the midi-chlorian test." Draco faked a polite smile. The nurse looked up and blushed.
"Oh, go down the hall, to the left and just follow the signs from there."
"Thankyou."
Draco followed the nurse's directions. He was shocked at how clean the place was, even for a hospital. He could see his face in the walls and floor.

By the time he got to the testing center,he was feeling slightly annoyed that the nurse hadn't told him how long the walk was. He had been following the signs for half an hour. There were three people lined up in front of a terminal. To the left of the terminal was a table covered in comically large syringes. On the wall next to him a poster advertising the jedi said "One in a million people are force-sensitive. Are you that one? Join the Jedi." Next to that poster was a midi-chlorian chart. According to the chart, two thousand was average, three thousand was good, and six thousand or more was force-sensitive. He waited in the que for about twelve minutes before it was his turn. He was surprised at how fast the test was.

The strict-looking nurse guided him into the testing room. He let out a sigh of releif when he realised that the syringe she was going to use was considerably smaller than the ones lying on the table.
"This may sting a little." The nurse said briskly before shoving it into his arm. Draco hardly felt it.
"Okay, this will take a minute or two." The nurse inserted the blood into a tube in the terminal. She then stared at the moniter for about ten minutes, until the computer beeped and her expression was so shocked it could only be described properly with an emoticon: :O.

She spoke into the comlink, her voice shaking.
"Th-this is nurse Rehams. I-I think you better see this, b-boss." after a few minutes an aged, good-natured looking man strolled into the room. He glanced at the monitor.
:O again.
"Are you sure there isn't a bug in the system? Run a virus check!" The nurse obediently ran the check.
"Nope. No viruses."
"Then re-administer the test."
Draco endured yet another ten-minute wait.
"Same as before, boss."
The grey-haired man turned to face Draco. Without saying anything, he turned the screen around. Though Draco suspected he would be force-sensitive, he never predicted this. The number on the screen was 19,569.

"I'll contact the Jedi." Stuttered the elderly man.
"No, that won't be necessary."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Are you already in the order?"
"No."
"Then why don't you contact them?"
"I told you, it isn't necessary!!!" Draco snarled. At this point, the elderly man recoiled, terrified of what Draco would do if he was angered. This would be useful in negotiations, Draco thought.

He left the testing center quickly to avoid being asked any more questions. He half-ran back to his ship, mulling over whether this would be an advantage or not. On one hand, if he learnt to control his power he would be greatly respected by Darth Hlormalen's Sith followers. On the other hand, if he didn't learn to control them, they would destroy him. He would have to consult Hlormalen. He also noticed that merely being aware of his abilities gave him a greater degree of control over them. He saw a stretcher before it even rounded the corner. When accessed the control panel to the door back to admin, he saw a detailed mental image of the man who last accessed it.

As soon as Draco's shuttle took off, Draco contacted Darth Hlormalen. Hlormalen's scarred face appeared on the holo-projector.
"Ah. Draco. You took the test, I presume." Hlormalen said in his cool, bussinesslike manner.
"Yes, I did. Hlormalen, what's your midi-chlorian level?"
"Eight and a half thousand. Very high. And yours?" Draco paused for a second.
"Nineteen thousand." For a while, Hlormalen said nothing.
"Well, I suppose that's what happens when you live on a focal point for the dark side your entire life." Hlormalen's voice remained level and unenthusiastic.
"You're not surprised at all?"
"I never said that." If Hlormalen was surprised, he certainly wasn't showing it.
"You'll need intensive training to control that power, of course."
"Will you train me?" Draco was a very straight to the point person. So was Hlormalen.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because its not my place. If you want real training, you need to find real Sith."
"And where are these "real" Sith?"
"Again, its not my place to say." The hologram flickered off. Draco would have to talk to him in length when he returned.
