Additional Information

Designed by a team of the most impressive scientists employed by LFX Industrial and developed with the utmost security, the Twilight project was begun during the opening stages of the Great War. A silent nemesis, the Twilight is outfitted with enough specialized stealth equipment to make even the scientists who designer her dizzy with wonder. Costing as much as a Victory-class Star Destroyer, the Twilight’s primary mission is that of intelligence gathering. Able to slip into a system completely undetected and stay for weeks – or months – at a time, the Twilight’s advanced array of sensors and scanners are capable to picking up hypercom signals, normal communications signals, and can detect hyperspace entries and exits from half a planetary system away. They can also detect fleets in transit, should these fleets be large enough.

A key weapon in today’s battlefield, the Twilight has begun entering operations as a stealth scout, sneaking into systems ahead of time and getting the “lay of the land”. In some cases, the Twilight has been known to utilize her weapons to destroy unsuspecting space defence platforms before an advancing fleet. Along with twin heavy laser cannons and a heavy turbolaser, the Twilight carries Decimator Missile Banks deliver fifteen missiles at once, but due to their nature the weapon can only be reloaded once. Lastly, the Twilight’s heavy ordnance launcher has a feed system that can load two-dozen missiles and can carry anything from explosives to EMP warheads to homing and tracking systems. These turreted weapons provide protection against starfighters and light transports, and can work with the other weapons to attack capital ships. Their ability to launch sensor drone missiles and tracking devices is also invaluable in intelligence-gathering.

The Twilight, while moderately armed, is not intended as a combat ship and, in normal cases, attempts to avoid combat at all costs. The primary mission of this ship is to gather intelligence and report back to her commanders. Due to her great cost and limited use, the Twilight is a rarity among the Union fleet.

Stealth Mode

The Twilight-class was designed as a moderately armed vessel capable of deep penetration of enemy space for the purpose of gathering strategic intelligence. Much of the troop and cargo space was removed in favour of a bewildering array of the most advanced sensors available to the Corporation. These ships are highly advanced listening and observation posts, capable of gathering and processing an enormous amount of data and transmitting it directly in real-time back to the Corporation via hypercomm. Each and every crewman aboard must pass rigorous tests to be considered for the duty, and some intelligence/ counterintelligence background is preferred in its personnel. Great lengths were gone to make this vessel as stealthy as possible; the most advanced cloaking device available was mounted. All power systems were shielded to prevent stray energy releases that might register on hostile detection equipment. The engines were modified to disperse and "baffle" their ion signature completely, and the hyperdrive is of an advanced design that eliminate the telltale gravitic and radiation bursts that accompany a hyperspace exit. Stealth coating on the hull itself simply adds to this array of anti-detection wizardry. Even when "running hot" and de-cloaked, the ship is difficult for enemy sensors to detect at long ranges; when fully cloaked and shut down in "stealth mode", it can simply vanish.

Stealth Features

Imperial Standard Cloaking Device with LFX RipZone Communications/Sensor Array

Gravitational Deposits along outer hull to render vessel neutral on Crystal Gravity Trap sensors

White Noise Sound Centre to render vessel invisible to sonar-based sensors

LFX chameleon armour to reflect starscape

Ion/Radiation Baffles to neutralize ion exhaust and eliminate ionic tracking

Hyperdrive Baffle to eliminate radiation on re-entry and departure

Energy weapons are concealed beneath the hull when not in use, lined with sensor-stealth material to eliminate any telltale energy signature

Stealth Mode Drawbacks

Due to power demands, speed in stealth mode is reduced by more than 50%

Due to power demands, the vessel is incapable of utilizing any of her energy weapons while in stealth mode

Advanced Features

The hyperdrive of the Twilight has been heavily modified to detect artificial gravity wells, such as those produced by Interdictor cruisers, and jump out of them without damage to the craft or its occupants.

The sensor and communications array has been highly specialized to allow for the utmost secrecy and stealth, even when in use.

Hypercom antenna has been adapted to operate on tight-wave sifter-channel, allowing it to operate undetected and overcome jamming systems (the com changes channel in accordance with commands from the receiver ever .001 seconds, making jamming impossible)

Specialized sensor focus dish allows for a long-range focus with passive, undetectable, sensors.

RipZone Communications/Sensor system allows for use of passive sensors and hypercom even with cloak active. (Note: This raises the chances of the ship being detected. While chances are still slim that a ship would pick up the Gunship’s transmission, it is a possibility.)

Tight-beam laser transmission system allows for communications between ships, even when in full cloak. This beam is susceptible to jamming only when it is unable to get a line-of-site link with another vessel, i.e. when a ship, space station, or planet gets in the way. Effective range: 1000 km.

Chemical-based self destruct system to destroy vessel, leaving no traces larger than a holodisk.
