Onyx - 6 Months Before Battle of Corellia

"State your name."

"James Toran."

"Where did you come from?" Logan asked the dirty, tired man sitting in front of him, angrily.

"I am from Corellia. I am a mechanic." The disheveled man said.

"You are also a pirate. In the employ of the..." Logan glanced at his datapad, "Dark Star Pirates."

"Yeah." Toran said.

"Why?" Logan asked.

"Money. I have a daughter, I need the money." Toran replied.

"There are other ways to get money, James Toran." Logan said.

"Yeah but my business was going under, I barely had enough money to feed my kid. I needed cash fast and this was the quickest way."

"Too bad for you.' Logan replied.

"Please... you have to help me. My daughter..."

Please...

Logan awoke with a start, and was relieved to see the sunlight filtering through the windows in his spacious room. A dark cloaked figure stepped out of the darkness as the retired admiral stepped out of bed and put on his robe.

"Admiral." The Noghri intoned in his mewling voice.

"Just a bad dream, Mahk." Logan said, walking out of the room and into the kitchen and making himself a cup of fresh coffee.

"A bad dream." Came Mahk's voice, as if he was trying to understand the concept of a nightmare.

"Yes. Don't Noghri have dreams?" Logan asked, sitting down in a low chair.

"No. We do not have enough sleep to dream." Came the reply, which Logan knew to be true. Mahk always positioned himself standing up at the door in Logan's sleeping quarters and never blinked an eye. Only when the Admiral was fast asleep did Mahk sleep, and that was sparingly. Perhaps an hour at a time.

The Noghri bodyguard never complained, either.

"What was this dream about?" Mahk asked. And at that, Logan cringed.

"A long time ago... about events out of the past." Logan replied, sipping his coffee.

Mahk stared at him, his expression fixed, "You have been dreaming of this many nights." Mahk said.

Logan nodded, silent.

"Who is 'Toran'?" Mahk asked. Logan realized he must be talking in his sleep.

"A man I met a long time ago. A man tried for smuggling and sent to Kessel." Logan said.

"And you regret this?" Mahk asked.

"Very much so. That ws back during the days of the New Alliance. So long ago."
