Empire's Shadow: Talus

Two Vanguard Class Nebulon Ghost, a ship design by Sienar Fleet Systems, slipped silently through hyperspace, its advanced hyper drive engines propelling the ships a respectable one unit past the speed of light. Extended periods of hyperspace strained a person’s mind. Luckily for the personnel of the 1,500-meter ships, they would only be in hyperspace less than a day; but they would be staying at their destination, hopefully, for quite a long time.

Starting from the Duro waypoint, the two Naboo Sith Order Defense Department ships traveled along military hyper lanes, just off a major trade route. A few days earlier, a pair of Dominator Class Star Destroyers took the same route to an extraction point, about a day’s real space journey away from the actual target.

The Dominators employed a tactic perfected by Grand Admiral Thrawn during his romp through the galaxy. They powered up their gravity wells and waited for the Vanguards, which had a course set for Coruscant. Passing through the sphere of influence the Dominators controlled the Vanguards were plucked from hyperspace by the Dominators.

Communications between the four ships were held, and then the Vanguards shunted almost all power to the engines and began their real space journey to the space station. The Dominators remained in their deep-space place, waiting for the time when their use would be needed again.

The Next Day

Concealed from the outside world by thick sheets of durasteel, Special Operations Group Troopers sat locked inside a YT-5700 transport. They all wore black, covert-ops uniforms and held their Blaster rifles close to their chests. None spoke; and there were no pre-mission rituals. It was just another mission to the SOGs.

For the past three hours, the Vanguard Cruisers had cruised through real space on an automated course, with their 5 Seniar Advanced Cap3 Cloaking Modules activated. An Aaron Astrin Operation’s navigating computer carefully plotted the two capital ships course. The crew of the Vanguards relied on this; they could not do anything with the cloak activated.

The SOGs and crewmen alike went through their mission scenarios a hundred times over. For the mission to be successful, everything had to be completed like clockwork.

Across the two Vanguards, a siren blared. A minute later, the cloaking devices on the Vanguards were dropped for a brief five seconds, at which point all the drop ships on the Vanguards deployed.

It was odd, for the pilots of the transports at least, to see the mammoth ships just disappear in space all of a sudden. They had only been uncloaked for brief seconds and had little chance of being identified. The transports would only be visible for half a minute before being engulfed by the target acquisition.

The ships landed on the space station, Centerpoint. Like clockwork, they began their tasks. Inside the transports, in addition to the troops necessary to run a space station, a Gencore Level II shield generator, a Kuat Yard Advance Turbolaser and two Planetary ION Cannons were stored. Quickly, engineers retrieved the equipment and began hooking it up to Centerpoint’s archaic systems.

Meanwhile, the SOGs took up positions all around the space station. Out to one side, they watched Tralus spin. Out to the other side, Talus, the New Republic held planet could be seen.

The waiting game began for the occupants of Centerpoint.

The Second Day

A major attack fleet emerged from hyperspace around Centerpoint Station, now having its shield generator and basic weapons operational. As the attack fleet emerged, the two Vanguards uncloaked for the first time in a day, signaling that the attack fleet had found the right place.

The fleet was from the Naboo Sith Order. They had jumped directly to Centerpoint from Duro, bypassing the Dominator Class Star Destroyers, which had returned to a TNSO planet for defensive measures. At the head of the Naboo Sith Order fleet was the Allegiance Class Super Star Destroyer Champion. At its helm, Commander Rusty Elderberry controlled the whole Naboo Sith Order offensive.

The First Fleet lingered out of hyperspace in the Talus system, completely against what he had really hoped for, but he knew now, being the Jedi Knight he was, he had no choice...this was a necessity for his order, for his beliefs. No one aboard the Star Destroyer <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> Death's Hand<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> could debate the matter with the emperor...but they held the same lingering shame he did.

<!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> There is no honor in this<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> he thought to himself, the internal struggle tearing him apart inside. But when it came to a matter of right and wrong then a matter of internal beliefs...the weight of rulership always outweighed that of personal desire.

"We are exitting to real space in three...two...one," reported Deck Commander Helseen, who's voice was not cheery as it normally was, it was infact very sorrowfilled.

<!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> Look on the bright side...the Sith may turn and leave before a single shot is fired<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->, but Fearsons knew it wasn't true...not against a Jedi.

The large fleet exitted hyperspace between the shipyards and Sith forces, deciding that it would be best to get this done quickly and efficiently.

"Ok quickly, order the activation of the planetary shield," Fearsons demanded, punctuality was key and his forces knew it.

"Shields will be up in one minute my lord."

"Excellent ok, set an approach vector to the Sith ships," Fearsons called again, tapping his thumb rythmatically against the control console.

"Shield is up, we are around two minutes from enemy forces."

Lifting the commlink, Fearsons looked to the helmsman. "Let's hope they do this..." he said and lifted the link to his lips. "Naboo Sith forces, this is Emperor Fearsons of the Rogue Empire, our super laser is charging and we are preparing to fire, leave this zone at once."

The Naboo Sith Order stayed put, save for the charging of the advance Turbolaser and the activation of the Gencore Level II generator. Loosely, the Naboo Sith Order ships assembled in a defensive perimeter around Centerpoint Station.

“Ambassador,” Rusty Elderberry commed over to the Naboo Sith Order political leader aboard Centerpoint, “Our intelligence reports served true; and the Rogue Empire Fleet has arrived. They are hailing us and ordering us to surrender. The game is in your hands.”

Rusty nodded to the Ambassador, then cut the transmission. The Super Star Destroyer commander hated politics, especially when the politics interfered with a military operation; but Rusty was under direct orders from Lord Poreon to allow the Ambassador his share of this battle before Rusty commenced his attack.

***

The Ambassador sighed. The balance of the galaxy rested on his shoulders and so did the respect of his colleagues. An entrusted friend of the Sith Lord Poreon, the aged Ambassador was about to take on his last battle. He planned to purchase a beautiful ocean front property on one of the Naboo Sith Order’s worlds. Privately, he hoped it would be Tralus, Talus’ twin planet.

Christo Railing ran one of his hands through his silver-streaked hair and used the other hand to rub at his eye. His eyes scanned over three sheets of paper, which outlined his main points to address. Christo had dealt with the Rogue Empire before; but at that time, the Empire was on friendly terms with the Naboo Sith Order. Sith spawn, it was more than friendly terms; their bond was a mutual alliance that intertwined very closely.

As he stepped onto the holo-communications platform—one that would transmit not only to the Rogue Empire but also to the whole galaxy over the HoloNet—Christo pressed his arms to his side, ready to address the galaxy.

“Esteemed members of the Naboo Sith Order, esteemed friends in the Rogue Empire and esteemed contemporaries of the Galaxy, I am Christo Railing, Chancellor of the Naboo Sith Order’s empire.”

The HoloNet transmission would reach every corner of the galaxy.

“I am addressing you, the galaxy, today from Centerpoint Station. The station rests between the twin planets, Tralus and Talus. Surrounding me outside is a Naboo Sith Order Defense flotilla. I wish I did not have to use a navy to protect me; but the galaxy is a hostile place and my acquisitions are under attack.”

“I am not under attack by an enemy; but I am under attack by a friend. For many long years now, the Naboo Sith Order and Rogue Empire have developed a special bond between governments. It was not based on power but on mutual trust and friendship.”

“Today, the Naboo Sith Order’s dearest friend has turned its back on honor; but the Naboo Sith Order will not turn its back on honor.”

Fearsons tried to rub off the holonet attack...it would hurt him yes...but who would trust a Sith, much less a whole army of Sith, over a Jedi? No one, and Fearsons knew that. But for some reason, he still had a tight ping in his stomach. It knotted in ways it shouldn't have, and he bit his bottom lip harder than he should've, drawing deep crimsson blood.

He was ashamed of himself. He truly was believing he was turning his back on honor. But what honor ha's d been betrayed? Using the Force, Fearsons tried to ease his worries, tried to hide the shame not from those around him...but from himself. He was trying not to let himself recognize the pain swelling in his heart at betraying an old friend.

<!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> How can he do this? I've done nothing to desserve this..<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> the Jedi emperor told himself. But was that enough. The fleet was moving itself in arrayed positions up and around each other, watching the Sith fleet worriedly. <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> Sith don't use politics fairly...the galaxy knows this...they've seen this. I have nothing to worry about.<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->

There was a brisk silence in the air as those around on the bridge of the <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> Death's Hand<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> pondered what to do. There was no motive for this attack, none, for either side.

"I see the Sith's move..." Fearsons said aloud, and everyone could easily agree with him. They were trying to get the Rogue Empire to leave in shame. They intended not to, they were here for an intimidation factor, not for open combat against their longest lasting friends and allies. "Open me a link with them directly."

"Yes sir."

"We'll get to the bottom of this."

Darth Bill onboard the Corruption Star Destroyer, Serpent's Smile, watched as the fleet around him began to come into the formation. The fighters flew into the landing bays and the ships moved into a wedge behind the Serpent's Smile. The Corruption Star Destroyers were first, then the Imperial Star Destroyers then the Victory Star Destroyers. After that there was the Hapan Battle Dragon, interdictor cruiser, abolisher cruisers and some smallerships. The transports flew around the capital ships. The planet of Taanab was behind them.
"Tell the fleet to go into hyperspace now."
"Yes sir."
The Iron Fist Empire fleet sped up and went into hyperspace.
------------------------------------------------------------
Darth Bill watched as the streaks of light faded into stars. The Iron Fist Empire's fleet came out of hyperspace, inbetween The Naboo Sith Order's fleet and Talus. They had reasived the word that it was being attacked and ahd jumped out to go help their friends from the New Republic. They knew that the The Rogue Empire had sent a fleet but they weren't ready for the magnitude of it. It was huge. Consisting of 47 capital ships and then an Eclipse Star Destroyer. Darth Bill had seen the fleet out in this strenght before only once, when he was attacking Chandrillia. The Eclipse at the time had only been in the shipyard, a few days untill it was done. The prepose of that mission had been to take out the Eclipse before it could be used against the forces against him. The mission had failed and now he would have to fight beside that same Eclipse.

Darth Bill watched as the reinforcements came out of hyperspace. Theses ships were commanded by Admiral Snowkan. As they came near his aide rushed up.
"Sir we have a message from Admiral Snowkan here for you."
"Thank you. Dismissed."
"Darth Bill this is Admiral Snowkan. Please don't power up the Abolisher Cruisers as I have news from my cousin Lord Snowkan of the Mon Calamari Republic. Apparently he is coming in with their second best fleet, the Kessel Attack Fleet or in short term, KAF. He will be bringing it all here to help us against TNSO."
"Thank you. I will not order for the Interdictor or the Abolisher Cruisers to power up untill they come. Also you are now in command of the Serpent's Coil, Killer, Joker, Accuser and their fighters. Oh you also get the Song of War, it's fighters and the corellian gunships. Use them well."
"Thank you sir for not powering up the cruisers and for the new ships. I am sure my cousin will be here soon."
Darth Bill thought for a moment. He had heard about the Kessel Attack Fleet and it's commander. They hated slavers as they proved by not taking ANY captives as they took out the slavers at Ylesia. Now he heard they would be moving against Nal Hekka, the head planet of the slaving band that was at Ylesia. He and the Iron Fist Empire had no lve for slavers either. He was glad they were coming, but was it nessesary? He thought it was and so must the leader of this KAF, but why? Probably because they were both worried about some trick or another.

Lord Snowkan sat his chair on the bridge of the Liberty. Then suddenly his aide rushed up.
"Sir we have a message from the NR. It originated at Talus."
"Send it here."
"Yes sir."
"To Lord Snowkan and all MCR forces. We have a threat in system at Talus. The threat is a TNSO fleet and we will need help soon. Please come to our aide."
"I am coming."
"Thank you sir."
The NR officer signed off. Lord Snowkan called across the bridge to his navigator.
"Plot a course to Talus."
"Yes sir."
Then Lord Snowkan sent this information to Emperor Teebo. They had never liked TNSO after it had attacked Honoghr while the Kessel Attack Fleet was busy attacking Chandrilia. Now they had a reson to attack them.
"Sir I have the course all laid in."
"Then give your course to the other ships and take us there now."
"yes sir. Engaging hyperdrive now."
A jolt went through the MC300 as it went into hyperspace with the rest of the Kessel Attack Fleet not far behind.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The Kessel Attack Fleet came out of hyperspace on the other side of Talus that the shipyards were at.
"Bring us to those shipyards now."
"Yes sir."
As the Kessel Attack Fleet came out around the plane they saw the three fleets already here. The Iron Fist Empire fleet was near the shipyards, The Rogue Empire fleet was surronding TNSO fleet which looked like it was protectig Centerpoint Station.
"Bring us out of range of the other fleets but as nea the shipyard as possible."
"Yes sir."
"Launch the fighters."
"Yes sir."
The fighters roared out of the landing bays. They were ready for anything.

After a short delay...the Rogue Imperial forces...were gone and en route for a new destination.
  • Posted On: Feb 4 2002 4:51am
Rusty and Christo both breathed heavy sighs of relief as the Rogue Empire fleet left the system. Lives had just been saved, and the Naboo Sith Order had preserved one of its most important alliances. Those Mon Calamarian and Iron Fist fleets still remained, though. They did not really pose a problem to the Naboo Sith Order’s plans; they were just a small hurdle to be hopped.

Rusty mulled over what those two fleets were doing defending Talus. Talus was the New Republic’s planet. It proved just how low the New Republic would go. They were using the two fleets like sacrifices in their game of Dejark.

Pity for the Mon Calamari Republic and the Iron Fist who were being played.

“Move the fleet towards Talus. Set up a fighter screen. Do not open fire until you can see the white of their underbellies,” Rusty ordered the fleet forward at a slow, energy-conservation pace. Shame the pawns would show bloodshed.

Darth Bill watched as TNSO fleet advanced.
"Launch the fighter. Make sure they have the FEX-M34 missiles in their launchers. I want to make this easier. Tell them to stop all incoming missiles."
"Yes sir."
"Tell the Abolisher and Interdictor Cruisers to shunt power into their shields from their pulse mass generators and gravity wel generators."
"Yes sir."
"Don't fire unless they fire on us."
"Yes sir. But sir, the ships are below our line of fire for the top guns."
"Lower the ships. Give me a com message with the Liberty."
"Yes sir."
"To Lord Snowkan, this is Darth Bill of the Iron Fist Empire. Please indecate if you are hee with TNSO or here with the NR or here for your own reasons."
The fighters swarmed out of the capital ships, all 1116 of them. The capital ships lowered their bows to be able to bring all of their guns on the approaching ships. Darth Bill was thinking. The New Republic did have a very big fleet, and they could bring in ships to save Talus themselves. Why had they sent us here? And why was TNSO even attacking Talus. Then Darth Bill realized something. If he wanted to be trained in the ways of a Sith it would be better not to angrer TNSO.
"Stop those orders. Recall the fighters. Prepare to get us out of here."
"yes sir. but sir aren't we here to defend the New Republic?"
"Yes we are. But they have a big enough fleet to defend themselves without us helping them. Also wasn't it them who didn't jump into Chandrillia to help us fight TRE. Get us out of here."
The fighters swarmed back into the capital ships landing bays. The ships started to turn to go back to a Iron Fist Empire's planet.
"To Lord Snowkan. We are leaving the system. I think you should to. Remeber when we attacked Chandrillia? Remeber who didn't come? Why should we defend them when they can easily defend themselves? yes they gave me Raiders, but what did that do for me? I perfer a straight fight with no special eapons, unless it is chemical missiles. Yes they gave us both RAFEs, but what for? Only four grroups have chemical missiles and that is you, me, TCS and TRE. we both have a no fire order with TRE and TCS gave us chemical missile cause they are our allies. We don't need RAFEs. We are withdrawing, i hope you don't, lose your fleet by staying."
The Iron Fist Empire ships flew past the MCR ships and TNSO ships. then they disappeared into hyperspace.
