I know I know, there have been a lot of polls lately, but I need everyone's opinion on something, and that is, what is the greatest Empire of all time? and I mean that by biggest amount of territory siezed. Personally, I've been rooting for the Mongolians, or Mongols for short, led by Genghis Khan. At the same time that they were invading the Roman Empire in Central Europe, they were kicking ass in China, and Japan. Err, was kicking butt for a short while in Japan that is.

So, the greatest Empire? Results (total votes = 15):

They say the sun never set on the British empire back in the day.

And a bloody empire it was. You think the US was bad with enslaving Africans? Britain took part in that too, I believe they started it. Then there are the slaughters in Africa, the enslavement of entire countries ...

Egypt was the first power when world history began.

Ottomon, almost took over Europe. Only if they had won the Battle of Tours and weren't @#%$ over by Poland.

Mongolian Empire. Not because it out lasted everything, but just because they actually conquered all that land faster than anyone else.
My opinion has nothing to do with the fact that I love reading about Attila the Hun and Genghis Kahn.

For the most powerful, grandest, and more successful empire...the Roman Empire wins the biscuit. No one can really compare to their success for their time period or their advancement.

However for sheer land conquered by a single man, there is no way to overlook that Ghengis Khan conquered more in his life than most persons conquered in entire dynasties and bloodlines.

He was a genious of unconventional warfare and he knew how to lead his people.

He ranks up there with the most genious military commanders in history - but his empire, as powerful as it was under his reign, slowly began to collapse with his death.

He was, more or less, its lifeblood.

The Roman Empire was good for a long time. If they'd developed the Heavy Calvary slightly earlier they would have probably taken over a lot more of the world than they actually did.
