Background: A reinforcement convoy is intercepted by a U.S. surface force trying to stop it. The Japanese force, which consists of the CL Jintsu, 5 Destroyers, and 4 Destroyer transports, faces a superior Allied force of the American light cruisers Honolulu and St. Louis, the New Zealand light cruiser Leander, and 10 American destroyers.

In a thirty minute battle, which occured at night-time, the Allies came out on the losing side, with the American DD Gwin sunk by a torpedo, and with the light cruisers Honolulu and Leander seriously damaged by torpedoes, and the light cruiser St. Louis lightly damaged by a torpedo.

The Japanese succeeded in their mission of dropping off 1,200 soldier reinforcements to Vila, marking a major defeat for the Allies, and one of the very few defeats they suffered navally in 1943.

This random battle brought to you by me.
