KOTOR 2 endings cut?

I thought maybe this should go under arts and entertainment, but it isn't really art and it's more about a source of entertainment in a more technical sense rather than a discussion sense.

KOTOR 2 is the abbreviation for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, and the reason why I'm bringing it up is that it appears there is finally an explination for why the ending sucked so much.

I remember distinctly Gash's fury, and I definetly recall my own disappointment, at the relatively nonsensical ending. It felt rushed, with key dialogue cut and resolutions removed. It was buggy. The game right up until the start of the third "endgame" act had been great, but the last few scenes just made little sense.

It appears the reason why is because they had been working on a much larger, much grander, much more awesome ending. In what was released, there is a scene where Kreia tells you the fate of the other characters by peering into the future - rather bland and uninteresting, wheras in the original ending each character would recieve a confrontation scene with full resolution. The bit where Mira fights Hanharr on Malachor V, which had always seemed a little out of left field, was part of this.

There was also apparently a much more clear explination from Kreia, and more confrontations before the end. The reason why all this was cut was because Lucasarts applied pressure to Obsidian studios to have it finished in time for the Christmas rush, when they were clearly several months short of a finished product. At first, this seems like hollow consolation, but it appears something interesting may be going on that could give players of KOTOR 2 a chance to see the full ending, maybe.

Obsidian released the scripts and the voicework in the computer version of the game, and some relevant files to a group of modders, who are apparently making the missing scenes to be patched in to KOTOR 2. I imagine it's not worth rushing out and buying KOTOR 2 for your computer, but it's certainly an interesting idea and apparently could do much to improve the massive fan disappointment with the game - a tragedy, considering how well the first game did, and how entertaining it was.

Anyways, I knew many people here were just as disappointed as I was when they finished KOTOR 2, so I'm just putting this out there.

I beat KOTOR I (on Hard as I remember it). I never purchased KOTOR II though, partly because I heard about the less-than-satisfactory ending. I'm not suprised that it's Lucasart's fault. EVERYING is Lucasart's fault.

I recently beat Advent Rising. Now there's a fantastic game with a very good (if a little gushy) plot. I highly recomend it :)

Really? I thought Advent Rising's ending was just as lame - true, it's the first part of a trilogy, but the game spoke excitedly of how you can make choices, and the only choice you seem to be able to make is which of your main character's two loved ones dies first, and which one dies second.

Finally got around to beating KOTOR II just a few weeks ago. The ending was a bit disappointing... nothing really wrong with the idea, but there was just a like of, like you said, dialogue etc. It is unfortunate that Lucasart's rushed the game... isn't that what happened with Fable as well? Anyways - in comparison to KOTOR I, the ending was disappointing (I have both of them for Xbox), but I will likely buy them both, or at least KOTOR II for the computer if this "extended ending" is added. Also, my brother simply wants them for all the mods that are available with the computer versions :p

Oh, well I didn't hear any of this hype about making decisions. I didn't expect to make decisions, I was having too much fun throwing aliens into space and getting level 5 melee mastery. True, the game was a bit buggy, but I lived. The gameplay was fun.

It's definately linear. No real choices there, but it was a good linear, so yeah, it was still fun.

I won't spoil the ending, just in case anyone is actually going to play it, but I didn't think it was that bad.

I'm still working on KOTOR I. I played the good guy all the way through with Bastila only to be dumped! She acted like I had talked to hear like I was Han Solo or something, I chose the 'brotherly' answers tho.

Next time through I'm so going to be a dark jedi.

Darth Nihilus was too under used, I heard (I never beat the game;my disk was busted, and I wasn't impressed enough to buy a new one).

That is true... he is said to be so "powerful" and should hold some significance in the story but isn't really involved that much. Then when you finally do get to face him he is probably one of the easiest "bosses" - what kind of Sith Lord gets beat by Force Wave? I waved him which stunned him then I fucking slashed him to shit, lol - disappointing...
