Is there a specific place for newcomers to start rping, or can I start anywhere?

I'd recommend starting out by reading some of the threads in the Biography and Battleground forums to get an idea of where TRF is and what it is about. If you see something that catches your eyes, ask about it here; the appropriate people would be happy to work with you on whatever ideas you can draft up. If you don't want to read ahead and you just want to take the test straight away, you can post roleplays in either the Astral Astoria or The Battleground, but be warned, the galaxy can be a cruel place for those who are ill prepared to brave it.

Welcome to TRF, gl, hf.

Welcome to The Rebel Faction; use at your own risk. (See, Beff, I got it right that time...)

Read the Rules and FAQ, if you haven't already. Then read them again, and if you have any questions, PM me, Beff Pike, Omnae...or any of the others that seem pretty active. Then read Cataclysm; it gives a pretty good idea of where the storyline in TRF is at the moment.

And Ahnk is right about it being hard; I decided not to read threads when I started and got blasted by Beff when I tried to take over Mandalore, not realizing that there were already a number of RPs about the planet. Don't trust the planets list, or the map for that matter. Always do a Battlegrounds Forum search for the planet's name if you want to do anything with it - trust me, it helps.

Other than that, the best thing for a new member to do is write a bio and join a Faction. I advocate the Empire, but that's just because I'm a member. There are a lot of good, well established factions out there that are more than willing to help new members get involved and learn the ropes. Later, once you really know what you're doing, freelance is OK, but it's best to start with an established faction.

On the other hand, freelancing is OK too, if you're brave enough. We'll still all help you get started, but you won't have that direct backing of veteran members.

Other than that, enjoy yourself!

Oh, and if you see a lot of us going around and insulting one another, know that we don't (usually) mean it. TRF is a well-established community with its own quirks. One of them is that a lot of the members have been around so long that they just got so used to insulting each other that they didn't want to stop. So there's nothing personal. Usually.

Wes, every time you do that, I dream of a day when a certain Anzat bounty hunter drinks the "soup" of a certain Imperial general . . . yelling something to the effect of "ahh, sweet revenge!"

Oh, hi new guy. The Astral Astoria was created to give newcomers a place to introduce themselves without fear of Imperial warfleets or Coalition "Ooh, new guy, new guy! Help us!" mobs. It has seen startlingly little use in recent times, however.

Writing up a biography is a good place to start; it gives the community a chance to know who your character is, what his goals are, where you plan on taking him . . .

I feel like saying "Just jump into the battlegrounds; you'll be fine!" but some of these other guys might hurt me for that.

Otherwise, listen to someone who's better at this than me. Just not Wes . . . I fear he's not long for this world.

Hey, Beff wouldn't kill me...

Then again, maybe I should start running.

If it can be done in 140 characters or less, maybe. Otherwise Wes can rest assured; spared by my considerable sloth.

Hi Sean, welcome to TRF! ;)

If you would like a hand in getting established, or would like someone to help RP with you, this is the place to ask for it.

I would advise joining a faction, you'll find more experienced members there who can help you get to grips with how TRF works, and of course give you a hand with your RP's.

Remember nothing's written in stone, you can always go your own way later should you want to, but starting in a faction helps you get involved quicker.

I'll look forward to reading your exploits! ;)

Alright thanks everyone for your helpful info xD, I'll figure everything out eventully lol.
I do have a question though, I'm still working on my characters bio and I am thinking of making him able to use the force. But I am not sure whether to have him a Sith or a Jedi, any suggestions? Thanks!!

Kach; once I work out a suitable punishment, you will be reprimanded for that.

Also Sean, the Force has its own set of rules and guidelines. We require all new Force-Sensitive characters to start at what we call "Padawan" level. This basically restricts new Forcies from starting off as uber-Master Sith Jedi Super Sian Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

In practice this means that the character in question, whatever his chosen discipline, will start off with certian restrictions on just what exactly he/she/it can do with the Force etc. There is a helpful page right here.
